Sources

"The title Sudeki derives from Japanese word wonderful (素敵, suteki?), though some find it amusing the title is closer to steak (ステーキ, sutēki?)."

There seems to be no source for this. A leading member of the team actually said to me that the name is just made up and that the resemblance to suteki (wonderful) is a mere coincidence. Whoever wrote that bit could post their source - otherwise it'll have to go as unsourced speculation. 193.64.250.107 08:44, 3 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, the story is this: Someone posted cut-and-paste trivia from MobyGames (which is not exactly all the times reliable to begin with); I reworded everything it had. If this is disputed, however, I think it's better to be just struck off rather than left, because, as you say, there's no source for that. --wwwwolf (barks/growls) 17:49, 3 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

May I clarify the history of the name.

The title of the game was decided by asking members of the development team at Climax for suggestions. Microsoft was to choose from the suggested titles, and I, Miko, suggested the romanization of "素敵" ('suteki'). However, when Microsoft XBox division picked this, they misspelled it, and thus it became 'sudeki'.

Fair use rationale for Image:Sudeki.jpg

edit

Image:Sudeki.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Cafu?

edit

It says that under the Characters Heading, that there are eight playable characters. However, I have completed the game several times and have not once been able to play as Cafu, which I find sad that, as since he is Elco's Shadow Counter Part (and since Cafu is my favourite player), you should be able to play as him. Can you possible change the article so that it says there are 7 playable characters, but 8 main characters or something please? Or if you can actually play as Cafu, can you tell me where/how please? Cheers. -- §Lacky§ 00:07, 6 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sudeki in Japanese

Sudeki needs a Japanese article. WhisperToMe (talk) 12:24, 2 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Guinness Gamer's Edition

edit

I've seen Sudeki mentioned in the Guinness Gamer's Edition for 2010, as one of the top ten RPGs to be played; I can't remember the exact catagory it was listed under, nor where to place it in this article, but I believe it would be a significant achievement to be recognised. How should this be handled? 122.106.238.201 (talk) 05:59, 16 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Oh right, this game - I remember seeing used copies of it at GameStop and being baffled by the outfit the character on the cover is wearing. I'll be back with a review soon.--AlexandraIDV 10:34, 1 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Images

  • Reasonable use of fair-use images: cover art for identification, screenshot for explanation of gameplay, and production art illustrating aspect of development

References

  • Seems fine - uses RSs, and staff's websites

Infobox

  • Avent, Simmons, and Lynch are only mentioned in the infobox, without any sourcing
  • Would recommend taking full advantage of the cover by adding a caption identifying the characters depicted

Lead

  • Set on the splintered world of Sudeki, now divided into the twin planets Illumina and Akloria - does "now" add anything?
  • anime aesthetic - would reword as "anime-inspired aesthetic", and link anime

Gameplay

  • You don't mention HP and SP again after introducing the concepts, making me question if its necessary to bring up the acronyms in the first place
  • Questioning whether "skill points" really should be capitalized (regardless of whether it is in-game). Same for skill strikes, skills, and cinematic spirit strikes - these are regular words, not proper nouns.
  • use the blacksmith to purchase and upgrade weapons sounds strange to me, as I'm assuming the blacksmith is a person. I would suggest rewording to say you can revisit the blacksmith to do those things.
  • talking to certain NPCs lead into side quests - leads into side quests.
  • Save points are found at different points through the environment. - "at different points" is unnecessary, it's already clear that the save points aren't all located at the same spot. Can be reworded as "...are found throughout the game".

Synopsis

  • which is currently united under the Bright Empire - does "currently" add anything?
  • the four are first defeat a siren monster - should presumably read as "the four first defeat..."
  • allowing Sudeki reunify. - I assume this should be "allowing Sudeki to reunify."

Development

  • Microsoft manager Peter Connelly said that Japan was failing to deliver RPGs for the Xbox - it's Japanese game companies that weren't developing Xbox RPGs, not the country of Japan
  • the title was changed due to potential confusion with a similarly-titled series. - do we know what series this was?
  • The game was originally planned to be called "Suteki" - originally is not the right word here, because as you mention earlier in this section, the game was at first titled Symphony of Light
  • which can roughly translates from Japanese - "which roughly translates". Also, consider linking suteki to wikt:素敵.
  • so much opening lore than the opening "that the opening"
  • producing "literally hundreds" - do we need to quote this? Can't we just write "producing hundreds"?
  • Tal's original version - "Tal's original design", right?
  • its current technology-infused version - "current" implies it could change again in the future. Would recommend changing to "its final..."

Release

  • As part of its promotion, several notable voice actors were brought in to dub the characters - it does feel strange to say they are notable, and then not actually note who they are.
  • The cover art was designed by manga artist Yamato Yamamoto. - would specify that this is the cover art for the Japanese release only
  • The GOG version was delisted on 28 May 2020 - do we know why?
  • Microsoft, owners of the Sudeki IP, - would recommend writing out "intellectual property"

Reception

  • The entire first paragraph needs to be more specific about the time frames it's talking about - September of what year? Ranked #25 for what period? The 78th best-selling Xbox game in Japan of all time or of the year or what?
  • customization - rest of article uses customisation etc
  • Hilary Goldstein of IGN, found it - extraneous comma
  • I'm not gonna hold up the review for this, but the structure of the final paragraph is pretty repetitive.

I will put this on hold for the usual seven days - ping me when you have addressed the above or if you have any questions!--AlexandraIDV 14:12, 3 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Alexandra IDV: I've done my best to address all the points above. As to the ones I couldn't address properly, no the other series wasn't specified in any of the sources I could find, and no reason was given for the GOG takedown. --ProtoDrake (talk) 18:20, 3 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
I'll try to find a source that states why was Sudeki delisted from GOG... (Update: No avail unfortunately...) Roberth Martinez (talk) 23:11, 3 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you (and thank you Roberth for checking) - I will promote this now--AlexandraIDV 12:20, 4 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
