Masjid Sultan → Sultan Mosque – change to English title --Peaceworld 20:49, 21 November 2016 (UTC) --Relisting. Bradv 00:24, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). Steel1943 (talk) 21:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
- Is the English name the WP:COMMONNAME? From the external links and references, I'm not seeing definite proof of this. Steel1943 (talk) 21:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
- @Peaceworld111: This request has been moved to full discussion. Steel1943 (talk) 21:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose. According to Google News the current title is the more WP:COMMONNAME: 3690 [1] vs 2340 [2]. Zarcadia (talk) 17:42, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
- Support. Official name according to its English website and frequently used in English sources. Zarcadia's google hits are flawed in that they 1) do not account for the fact that the phrase "masjid sultan" is also used in non-English languages, such as Malay, and 2) can obviously relate to other similarly named mosques in other countries. --HyperGaruda (talk) 10:58, 23 November 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose. "Masjid" doesn't denote that it's strictly Malay. Usually, mosques are addressed by their Arabic name. In this case, its "Masjid" rather than "Mosque". There are also English translations and it does not make sense to move the article just to address it in its English name.32cravenfan (talk) 17:27, 1 December 2016 (UTC)
- Your claim "Usually, mosques are addressed by their Arabic name": no, see Category:Mosques in Egypt (an Arabic-speaking country). The question however, is whether it is referred to as mosque in English-language sources (such as the mosque's own website) and if an English translation is attested in them, then per WP:UE the English translation should be used. --HyperGaruda (talk) 12:48, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
- Support. Page titles should use English where an English-language name exists. In this case, the mosque itself uses a particular name in English, so that is the name we should use. 64.105.98.115 (talk) 02:16, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
