This does not seem to effectively serve as a standalone page. Currently, it effectively duplicatesHistory of the Maldives, and for that matter Maldives#History. This is likely to remain the case, given the expansive scope attributed to this article. It does not cover a single period, but a series of different dynasties which all already have their own articles. Information about the monarchy is also already available at List of Maldivian monarchs. CMD (talk) 09:00, 26 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
I agree that this page will carry over much of the content located at History of the Maldives, but this also applies to every other historical country article. I (and hopefully some other editors) plan on adding more specific information about the state like its government, trade, and interactions with other entities; these aspects should warrant its separation from a regular history article. Also, all of the articles for specific Maldivian dynasties are stubs and provide almost no information outside of a short biography of some of the monarchs. 296cherry (talk) 16:00, 26 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
This article won't be able to do that well because the time period covered is too long. The government, trade, and interactions are too varied throughout that. It might be more possible on a dynasty level, but this would be a pure duplication. At the same time, the article start date doesn't feel that useful, as the government, trade, and interactions with other entities go back beyond that. Even the dynasty at the time goes back beyond that. CMD (talk) 16:09, 26 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Actually, I feel like the opposite is true; this article should work because the time period is long. There is already a lack of sources on the history of the Maldives, and the articles for each of the dynasties are uninformative stubs. From the sources I have seen and used, the geopolitical situation of the Maldives actually remained mostly stagnant throughout its history (periods of colonialism being the only major exception). In my opinion, merging all of the separate dynasty articles into this one would work quite well. I'll try and add as much quality to this article as I can over the next few days. After that, if you still feel that this subject doesn't require its own article, we should start a merge discussion. 296cherry (talk) 16:27, 26 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
A history article works because of the long time period, but at that point the article just duplicates a chunk of History of the Maldives. It would seem easier to work directly there, which could use some of the quality you have put into the history summary here, rather than adding here and then merging later.
