Talk:Summoner (video game)
Additions
editI have completed the game and added some information about the plot, but I fear that much more will cause the addition of spoilers to in-game plot revelations.HoundofBaskersville 01:27, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
This article was in poor shape
editI have done my best to clean it up and keep pertinent information (at least, that which was salvagable) in the article but it still needs some attention. It is notable in the sense that the first game in the series was a PS2 North American launch title as well.
I have not personally played any version of the game but I am tempted to look for the first title on a bargain rack somewhere just for the purposes of giving this article the proper treatment. If someone already well versed with this game beats me to it then all the better. 63.233.18.30 19:04, 16 December 2005 (UTC)
Another version
editI think it's important to add Mac OS to the list of platforms as I know the game was ported to Mac. I can't edit that column though.
Merge Dungeons and Dragons (sketch) to this page
editThis article isn't that big, so adding the sketch info would help to flesh it out. Also, I don't know that the sketch is really notable enough in it's own right to merit a separate page. How does one establish notability for sketch comedy anyway? --GentlemanGhost 00:25, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not sure that Summoner would be the best place to merge this into. It would be like merging the song Knights of the Round Table from Monty Python and the Holy Grail into Lego because the song was used with Legos replacing the actors.--Miguel Cervantes 16:16, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
- The sketch was not originally part of Summoner, and those looking for just the sketch who had never known it was part of Summoner (like myself) would probably be confused. Atron 15:20, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
- Strongly agreed. The Dead Alewives track predates Summoner by a long shot. Merging would be the closest thing to criminal negligence I can think of here on Wikipedia. -- RoninBK T C 21:36, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
- Disagree with Merge. I found it because of the Dead Alewives, and only found out that someone added video from Summoner much later. Hewinsj 15:52, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
- Disagree with Merge. The two articles are thoroughly unrelated. Pyrosim 04:43, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
It really needs its own page. I'm sure at some point someone will post a transcript or something.
Fair use rationale for Image:Summoner.jpg
editImage:Summoner.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
Character Page
editConsidering that several of the characters carry over to the second game, and there are many more to add yet (the gods, Sir Carados, Pijian, etc.), perhaps creating a seperate page for the characters may be a viable course of action. I would be interested to hear if anyone else would be interested in such a project. HoundofBaskersville (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 01:45, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
Missing part of the plot and much of the backstory and why is ff7 mentioned so much in it?
editThe game continued for quite a while after killing Murod they go back to the other continent and seal the demons within the rings and then there are multiple endings and the huge mythological backstory both in Orenia and in whatever the first continent that had Lenelle was.I don't think its right to compare this game to FF7 in the article the two games are very different and the game has more in common with a variety of a lot of other games a few of which predate FF7 and it just seems sloppy and in poor form for wikipedia to use an example such as that67.172.84.166 (talk) 07:18, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
Requested move 28 January 2018
edit- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: consensus not to move the page, per the discussion below. It appears that there may be support for moving Summoner (disambiguation) to the base title, but that is unclear, as is where the article currently at Summoner would go in that event. If necessary, I'd suggest opening a new multimove request to determine the consensus location for those two pages. Dekimasuよ! 03:45, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
Summoner (video game) → Summoner – Unnecessary disambiguation since Summoner redirects to Summoner (video game). Mika1h (talk) 11:30, 28 January 2018 (UTC)

- Looking at the edit history, shouldn't Summoner go to Summoner (disambiguation)? jcc (tea and biscuits) 13:07, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
- Is the video game the primary? Let's discuss. Sam Sailor 13:15, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
- There are two other articles titled "Summoner". The first one is The Summoner which doesn't have any reliable sources. The second is Summoner (Wicca) which lists two book sources, I don't know if they are reliable or not. Metacritic lists 16 reviews for the video game's Playstation 2 version and 14 more for the PC version: [1] [2]. To me it seems like the video game qualifies for primary topic. --Mika1h (talk) 18:27, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose as @Jcc: notes the target Summoner has a problematic edit history. Up to 2016 it was a stable harmless little article about a Summoner (you know as in a real summoner, English history, Chaucer, all that boring stuff) then a few months ago a video game editor came along, blanked that and made some kind of video-game dab page. I have restored it to stable status, as it was, being an article about the ecclesiastical office, with a hat note to the game. In ictu oculi (talk) 19:08, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose per In ictu oculi. Summoner was a short but sourced stub about an unrelated topic, until it was completely changed to an unsourced "series" article for Summoner and Summoner 2. Typically, a two game "series" isn't notable as a series to begin with. And even then WP:NCVGDAB would have the first game at "Summoner" and the series at "Summoner (series)" until necessary amounts of media had been produced to make it a primary topic (Generally 3+ games and one side game or related non-game item). Leave the game here, keep the original topic as In ictu oculi has already restored. -- ferret (talk) 19:41, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose And support alternate move to make Summoner a disambiguation page. I dont' think there is a clear primary topic here.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 23:40, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose, but support making Summoner a disambiguation page as proposed by Zxcvbnm. 142.161.81.20 (talk) 05:01, 29 January 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose - per Zxcvbnm, Summoner (disambiguation) should move as WP:PRIMARYDIS. -- Netoholic @ 21:55, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
