Sun Ra's birth date (a term he did not use) was established and published by researcher Gary Carner in Carner, Gary
1990 _Jazz Performers: An Annotated Bibliography of Biographical Materials_. New York: Greenwood Press. I cited it in my MA ethnomusicology thesis: Allan Chase, _Sun Ra: Musical Change and Musical Meaning in the Life and Work of a Jazz Composer_ (1992, Tufts University), written 1989-1992, which I shared with John Szwed during the writing of his biography, and which is cited several times in Szwed's book (with some misspellings of my name). I also confirmed the date with members of the Arkestra in personal communication during my research in 1991. For example, Ahmed Abdullah asked my birthday (June 22) and said "Oh, you're a 22 person, too." I asked what he meant. "Sun Ra is May 22..." etc. JazzProf56 (talk) 16:34, 20 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
