Talk:Sunbeam Alpine

Since I was one of the Founding members of the now defunct Sunbeam Alpine Club of San Jose, and a collector of Rootes cars, I'm familiar with all of the Series Alpines, having owned several Alpines, including the later 1969 Alpine that was the basis for the Plymouth Arrow. I'm familiar with the sales literature ( the roll-up side windows was featured in the marketing ) and helped Sunbeam Specialties get started; it's still here today. Our family has the same car featured in Dr. No that was the FIRST car that James Bond drove and eliminated his enemies by driving under a crane. I think that the hearse the bad guys were in was also a Rootes product. We also own one of the ill-fated series IV automatic Alpines with the Borg-Warner transmission. Uploading an image

I have a clearer photo of my '54 Alpine pictured here which I'd like to post and I also want it to display a larger image when when it is clicked but I don't know how to do this. If you can help, please get in touch. thanks Nqtraderman 06:59, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Click on "Upload file" in the "toolbox" on the bottom of the left-hand column in this page, and follow the instructions. The image will be uploaded at the size it is on your computer. (Presuming it's already in electronic form, on your computer.) Then you just need to edit the page and copy the syntax of one of the existing images - the only bit you need to change is the filename - the bit after Image: and before the first bar (|). The fact that it's a "thumb" will make it clickable, with the link being to the full size image. If that's still as clear as mud, please say how far you can get ;-) – Kieran T ^(talk) 09:57, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

In Film

@LorenzoB: Very few if any of the film related entries are sourced. There is a school of thought that it is 'self-referencing', in that anyone can find the information in the film if they are prepared to make the effort. Eagleash (talk) 18:02, 23 June 2018 (UTC)

It would be good to clarify what "I spotted an Alpine" means. It was far away in the background for a few seconds? That's not notable. It was the protagonist's car, and featured in many scenes throughout? That could be notable. —DIV (120.17.225.20 (talk) 01:50, 26 February 2019 (UTC))

Pic with less glare

It is very easy to find an image with less glare than this one but it shows how these tough and very successful little cars were dressed to run in the famous rallies they won

21st century equivalent

— not as for powder-puffs with a plasticised canvas roof up and a full-width windscreen for (must be winter) commuting in comfort as shown in the almost totally light-free replacement image. Please may the "glaring" colour photo go back on the page if necessary in a less prominent position.

I think it could be reinstated; did consider trying to edit the glare out a bit and uploading ane version, but it was not very successful. In relation, the images need relocating so the text is not squeezed per WP:IMGLOC; so possibly a 'gallery' at the bottom of the section. Eagleash (talk) 14:24, 20 October 2019 (UTC)

I've moved the images into a gallery (sizes can be amended if desired) and restored the 'glare' image. I think the reasoning behind its retention is to show the car in 'rally trim'. Will look for others in that configuration. Eagleash (talk) 15:31, 20 October 2019 (UTC)

At Commons there's a shot of the interior of the same car which shows the screens nicely and is a decent shot, but there's no 'overall impression'. The only other one is this,

Yes, the other shot is much higher quality but the busy background and the open door are not helping. As for the original one, I don't know what an HTC Salsa is but it is not much of a camera... I made the gallery a bit larger, can't hurt.  Mr.choppers | ✎  17:21, 20 October 2019 (UTC)

I started with slightly larger images but I was hoping to get all four in one line... didn't work. I think the size is fine now; I feel should be smaller than 'main' images. Sunbeam Alpine shooting brake

I note reference has been added to the Sunbeam Alpine shooting brake. This is complete nonsense. The shooting brake model was invented as an April fool's prank around 20 years ago. Unfortunately it was such a successful prank it has now spread far and wide.
