Notable Sunday school teachers

edit

I boldly removed the entire "Notable Sunday school teachers" section. It was unsourced, and consisted almost entirely of a list of people, notable for something unrelated to Sunday school, who apparently taught Sunday school at one time. This is little more than an indiscriminate list of trivia. People whose involvement with Sunday school is in itself notable can be discussed in article text. Otherwise, there is no encyclopedic reason to have an incomplete list of comedians, movie stars, sports stars, etc., who have taught Sunday school. --Orlady (talk) 04:45, 10 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Non-Protestant Sunday Schools

edit

I would be interested in a CHART of non-Protestant 'Sunday Schools' (and Sabbath Schools) - maybe we call it 'religious education' programs - perhaps from a sourced document, or a compilation of sources.

I think that those would include whatever systematically planned weekend community education curriculum they formally develop and conduct regularly:

Sundays

  • Protestant
  • Roman Catholic
  • Eastern Orthodox
  • UUs (they have religious education programs)
  • Ethical Humanist (Ethical Culture)
  • nontheistic (some local 'humanist' groups claim to 'invent' nontheistic Sunday schools)
  • vegetarian (a very few LOCAL vegetarian societies have experimented with this, as in Canton, Ohio, but my observation over decades is that they tend to prefer Saturday schools or even monthly programs - with a socially divided-by-age educational curriculum)

Sabbath

  • Jewish
  • SDAs and other sabbatarian
  • political groups that work toward cultural commonality through education

Of course, that is entirely outside the INTENDED scope of this article. MaynardClark (talk) 03:03, 6 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Use of Caps

edit

Please note that there is a lack of consistency regarding capitalisation. Both 'Sunday School' and 'Sunday school' are used. 130.43.65.191 (talk) 19:42, 15 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Precede?

edit

At the churches I've attended over the years, Sunday school has always been after the service, not before. Is my experience atypical? Ashorocetus (talk | contribs) 17:13, 21 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
