What is super-G?

edit

This article doesn't have an actual explanation of how Super G is different from slalom or giant slalom. 96.233.3.124 (talk) 18:58, 19 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

I have to agree with this. I came to this page to find out what exactly the Super-G is, and, after reading the article, I still have no idea. Tad Lincoln (talk) 02:40, 11 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Agreed! Why is it called Super-G? Why was the event created? Bhami (talk) 04:46, 18 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Do the Americans really need their own section for Super-G? I think it should be removed - Jason

neutral point of view

edit

I think that noting only American accomplishments in Super-G violates the principle of maintaining a neutral point of view. Shouldn't that section be removed?

what are the super g rules?

What happens if you crash through a gate? What is in and out of bounds on the course? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.36.200.118 (talk) 04:05, 20 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

super Z?

edit

What's the Z in the Definition section? Is that a typo, because it is not explained, but repeatedly used. I don't know enough to edit those "Z"s into "G"s. Also in that section, "with lower speeds approaching those achieved in Uphill." Uphill? Downhill, right? Finally, "way more turns" -- who wrote this, a 12-year-old? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.237.117.245 (talk) 04:10, 20 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Article name

edit

I think we should drop the "skiing" part of the article name (and the goes for the other articles too, like the "Slalom skiing"). The article name should be just "Super-G". And when referenced, it's not a proper name, and should be written "super-G" in the middle of sentences. LarRan (talk) 20:39, 3 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Requested move

The result of the move request was: moved. Consensus seems clear that the proposed title (or a variation thereof) is the common name. Whether it should be hyphenated can be discussed in a future RM if necessary. Jenks24 (talk) 14:20, 10 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Super giant slalom skiingSuper-GCommon name, even on the official FIS page (Google has 10 hits for "super giant slalom" on fis-ski.com), as well as in other Wikipedia articles. The idea of a move was brought up by someone in 2010 (without anyone opposing), and as a reader I have previously considered the current title rather odd.
The only issue I can see is the hyphen. Based on the use of "Super-G" not "Super G" in the first sentence of the article I chose the hyphenated as the suggested target. I also believe that this is the official version, but use is varied, even within Wikipedia articles and FIS pages. Relisted. Google implies it is the common name overall. "Super giant slalom skiing" is a rather clunky title which is not used in the sport, except when discussing the etymology of Super-G. (Excluding Wikipedia that is the only context I have seen it used in.) Super giant slalom skiing should become a redirect as the rarer name. 88.88.165.222 (talk) 11:46, 10 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Question. Where are you quoting from? I'm neutral on the hyphen issue as WP:COMMONNAME means it doesn't really matter what is official. I see the hyphen is used in this document, to give an example, but I am aware that the use is inconsistent. 88.88.165.222 (talk) 22:04, 14 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
That was from Ski Magazine.[1] "Giant slalom was added to the lineup in 1950 and Super G in 1983." Apteva (talk) 02:47, 15 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Call for Photos (2014)

edit

This article desperate needs some photos!

There are only a few available that I could find via Commons, and I'm thinking to add one of them now, but it's really not that good. I've contacted some photographers via Flickr to ask if they would re-license Super-G images of theirs for Commons use, but so far none oblige.

Do any of you have any good Super-G photos you'd consider making freely available? JDanek007Talk 05:51, 28 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Need to identify countries by more than just unidentified flags

edit

The country associated with each athlete is identified only by a flag. There needs to be either a legend telling readers what country each flag represents or (better yet) the flags should be replaced by the names of the countries. Replacing each flag with the country name would be best by far, so that readers aren't constantly required to refer to another section of the article to remind them what country an unfamiliar flag represents. — 8.9.94.16 (talk) 19:06, 23 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Practice Run?

edit

Isn't it a characteristic of Super-G that no practice runs are done on the actual site of the race? 2003:ED:2703:3D21:6C05:1DC6:3D53:9451 (talk) 16:37, 8 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
