Notice?

edit

The lead uses the phrase ... notice of change .... Is the SC the old name in the case where a name has been changed, or is the SC some form of notice issued by some formal body? If it is a notice, how is it created and sent? — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 20:00, 9 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

It's like a label for the name. It is not a formal scroll posted anywhere or anything like that. You will see lists of alternate scientific names for a species tagged with 'superseded combination' or 'obligate junior synonym' or the like. That specific phrasing as a 'notice' was taken from the cited sources.
Was it not clear from the example that the superseded combination is the old (wikt:superseded) name? How can i make the example clearer? awkwafaba (📥) 14:04, 10 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I think that the word "notice" should be removed as misleading. The article is not about parchment nailed to a door in a basement somewhere, but is about the previous name itself. I had never heard of a basionym so that sentence was a mystery to me. The example for a subsequent rename is rather confusing, I find myself wanting a diagram... — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 21:06, 13 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
