editThis article is very complete for a stub! I think the stub tag could probably go by now. - Just zis Guy, you know? 22:02, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
Australian COTW nomination
editHaving recently created flags (sport) made me realise just how small an amount of info there is about Surf lifesaving. It is one of Australia's most important and unique cultural things and should be made into a feature article. Their contribution to Australia is well known here but it deserves an international audience.
So, can I humbly suggest that Surf Lifesaving be made a collaboration of the week? A list of Surf lifesaving clubs wouldn't go astray either. Witty lama
Would be good also to have some discussion of whether and if so why this is an Aus/NZ only phenomenonFat Red 13:21, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
Article Renaming
editMove - this article should be retitled "Surf Life Saving Australia". 1: it is the official name of the organisation. 2: It will save confusion between SLSA and Surf life saving NZ.
General lifesaving article
editThere is an article about lifesaving in a more general context at lifesaving. It would be nice for it to have a more global scope - I wondered anyone might fancy adding a paragraph similar to that about lifesaving in the UK for countries such as Australia? – drw25 (talk) 15:05, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
Lifesaving redirect
editI'm not entirely happy with the redirect of lifesaving to here. This article is very Australia-centric, and lifesaving education and activities worldwide are not just restricted to surfing/beach situations. – drw25 (talk) 15:52, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
- I totally agreed with drw25 and stopped the redirect from lifesaving. This article should be separated into Surf lifesaving (or "Lifesaving activities in Australia" etc) and Lifesaving in general. The current “Lifesaving history” in this article is actually the Australian history of surf lifesaving. Surf lifesaving was originated and developed in Australia, but lifesaving itself was originated in Europe, 25-30 years before. I get the impression this article includes only the WLS (The organization founded by Australia, New Zealand ,South Aftica, U.S.), mainly Pan-Pacific countries(Australia-centric) and fail to mention FIS member countries like France, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Tunisia, and Turkey. I started an article lifesaving with more global point of view, hoping we can expand it into a full and general lifesaving article. Later I will fix other articles that link to lifesaving as a redirect. --Chiew 22:19, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
Date of Origin
editthe date it was held in the olympics is 1900, yet the article says it originated in 1907, can someone track down why this is? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jewsuit (talk • contribs) 18:56, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
