Svekoman vs. Svecoman

edit

Tuomas, please do not revert. Svekoman is in swedish, svecoman is English. Your google test shows too much Swedish texts. It seems that you do not have an English ear.

My apologies if I judged your edits by the impression you made with your other changes of spellings and names to forms less known in English. Please compare:

Plural

edit

Can someone explain why the plurals are not Fennomen and Svecomen? --Audiovideo 19:17, 7 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Think of -mania instead?
(Hrrrm, ...etymologically!)

Fair enough, but English is not that logical. Compare [1] and [2], adjust for wikipedia forks/clones and other languages and wonder which is in fact more common. --Audiovideo 00:48, 10 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Actually, all languages are equally logical, but it usually takes some knowledge of linguistics to understand the logic. I'm no linguist, but it would seem that the logic is simply that these are not English words so they do not follow normal English patterns for their parts that resemble English words. In other words, since the beginning "Sveco" is not English, the rest of the word is not considered English either. Therefore the normal English plural is added instead of the irregular one for "man". And apparently exclusively the regular plural is used on carefully edited English pages

148 English pages for Fennomans -wikipedia

26 English pages for Fennomen -wikipedia (most of which seem to be Finglish)

And in case someone is wondering about the rest of the Finglish, especially "Swecoman", removed by my copyedit, check Britannica (only Svecoman) and the following Google results. --Espoo 15:05, 9 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

33 English pages for Svecoman -wikipedia

12 (actually 4) English pages for Swecoman -wikipedia (apparently all Finglish or not carefully edited)

12 English pages for Svekoman -wikipedia. (none of which look very reputable in terms of content plus native English copyedit skills)

2 English pages for Swecomans -wikipedia. 35 English pages for Svecomans -wikipedia. 4 English pages for Svekomans -wikipedia.

Simplistic

edit

There are quite a lot of problems with this article. For instance, the statement that the Svecomans were more conservative, the Fennomans more liberal. This is far too simplistic. There were some very illiberal elements amongst some Fennomans. The reality is, especially on the Fennoman side, that this groupings were not unified in nature. There were, if you like, different flavours of Fennoman. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.73.201.69 (talk) 16:06, 22 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

It would be great if someone could expand on this, with references and data LookingGlass (talk) 13:55, 15 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Unreferenced

edit

The article is unreferenced. It was originally flagged as such in 2007 but the flag has been placed at the foot of the article. I have placed a new flag at the head of the article. While the article appears sound to me without references the validity of the statements is impossible to substantiate and their authority is compromised.
