I disagree with the unreferenced claim in this article that Cajun & Zydeco music are primarily associated with Baton Rouge. I'm glad there is an article here, but it totally overlooks Crowley, St. Martinville, New Iberia, Houma/Thibodeaux, Lafayette, etc., and posits the scene a little further north than it should. What is Swamp Blues?

edit

What are the unique chords, melodies, rhythms, song styles? Is there Spanish Moss hanging from the instruments? from the performers? This article deserves deletion. I'll nominate unless a good reason is given. Tapered (talk) 07:05, 30 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Frankly before I stumbled across this article I had never heard the term. I will do a quick trawl for reliable sources to see if it can be established that it is a genre.--SabreBD (talk) 09:26, 30 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
Ok there are lots of sources and seemingly no point in going to AfD. I will try to drag something together that is properly sourced which hopefully will provide a basis for expansion.--SabreBD (talk) 11:42, 30 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
"The allmusic website was created in 1995 as a place for music fans to indulge their passion." This is a sort of mission statement from the AllMusic website. That rings of Original Research, not sourced musicology. Tapered (talk) 07:09, 31 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
Not quite sure of your point, but Allmusic is not a user-generated site and is generally accepted as a reliable source. There are, in addition, many other sources.--SabreBD (talk) 07:03, 1 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
The website SAYS that it's a place for people to "indulge passion." Please site your "sources" and give examples of Allmusic as reliable. Just because it isn't user-generated doesn't confer validity. Tapered (talk) 00:36, 1 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
There has been much discussion on this topic, see Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard/Archive 14#allmusic.com. Opinions are divided but in summary: their reviews and staff written articles are generally considered reliable. A lot of editors (including myself) consider their classification system to be much less so. In any case, as I pointed out above, this is rather a moot point as I haven't posted anything yet. At the moment in draft I am relying on one sentence from their website and this was written by the highly regarded Cub Koda. Furthermore, as I said, there are a lot of other sources about this sub-genre.--SabreBD (talk) 07:03, 1 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
This now done. There could be more detail on the individuals, but hopefully this version will serve as a basis for future expansion.--SabreBD (talk) 09:48, 2 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
It's a few patterns of performance--labeled a "genre" by someone who wanted to draw attention to himself. It's a waste of a good wiki page. Tapered (talk) 05:41, 21 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
