1. Well-written: | ||
1a. the prose is clear, concise, and understandable to an appropriately broad audience; spelling and grammar are correct. | Prose is clear and concise. No typos spotted. Technical terms have been clarified. Overall reading experience: superb.
1b. it complies with the Manual of Style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation. | Lead section is of adequate length. Layout is correct. Article is not infested with words found on the WTW list. Fiction and list incorporation policies do not apply.
2. Verifiable with no original research, as shown by a source spot-check:
2a. it contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline. | There is a reference section. No bare URLs spotted.
2b. reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose).
2c. it contains no original research. | Spotchecking proves there is no original research.
2d. it contains no copyright violations or plagiarism. | Per Earwig, the top result is at a 33.3% similarity.
3. Broad in its coverage:
3a. it addresses the main aspects of the topic. | The restaurant's description, menu, history, and reception have significant coverage and are therefore adequately addressed. No information is left out.
3b. it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style). | Article stays focused.
4. Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each. | Article is neutral.
5. Stable: it does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute. | Considering that the article was just created a week ago, there have been no edit wars and development is at a steady pace.
6. Illustrated, if possible, by media such as images, video, or audio:
6a. media are tagged with their copyright statuses, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content. | Logo is tagged with non-free use rationale. The rest of the images are self-taken and are correctly tagged.
6b. media are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions. | I wouldn't say the cookie image is relevant. Everything else is fine.
7. Overall assessment. | I might go here someday... |
Sources
edit- Not sure if The Infatuation, International Examiner, The Stranger, Seattle's Child, ParentMap, Seattle Metropolitan, Daily Hive, Seattle Refined, and My Ballard are reliable sources. What about student newspapers? (sorry for being doubtful, I just want to make sure because there's a lot of sources used that I haven't heard of before)
- I'm confident these are appropriate for Wikipedia, but are you asking me to explain why for each? ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:53, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- I need explanations for ParentMap and My Ballard only. TWOrantulaTM (enter the web) 15:30, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- Also the student newspaper sources, not sure if we can use those. TWOrantulaTM (enter the web) 15:31, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- There's a Wikipedia entry for ParentMap, which is a monthly news magazine. More info here. More on My Ballard here. The student newspaper is not used for any particularly contentious claims. In order to specifically note that The Daily is a student paper, I've clarified, "The student publication of the University of Washington (UW)..." ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:40, 28 April 2024 (UTC) ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:40, 28 April 2024 (UTC)

Few things before we begin
edit- Not sure if we need a photo of a cookie if we can't see it. Looks tasty, though...
- Replaced w/ image of cookie ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:56, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- Same thing for the sign outside Chophouse Row (the restaurant photo is at the same location)
- Done ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:56, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- Top result from Earwig says the top result is at a 33.3% similarity, though I had to turn off the search engine setting. Quotes could be shortened.
Lead
editIsn't it ice cream parlor?Nope. It's ice creamery.- "or simply" -> "shortened as"
- based in Seattle, in the U.S. state of Washington -> "...based in Seattle, Washington."

- So Sweet Alchemy is a chain of ice creameries?
- You could call it an ice creamery and/or a chain of ice cream shops. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:00, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- a variety of ice cream flavors and other desserts -> "...ice cream and other desserts"
- Done ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:00, 28 April 2024 (UTC)

- That does not seem grammatically correct to me. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:00, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- "Sauces"?
- I've removed from the lead as unnecessary detail. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:41, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- Link in-house?
- Does not seem like necessary or helpful context to the reader. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:00, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- "daily from local farms" -> "from local farms daily" ("dairy" next to "daily" makes it hard to read)
- Good suggestion! Done ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:00, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- "deemed" -> "listed"?
- I went with "is considered" ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:00, 28 April 2024 (UTC)

- Seems appropriate to me, but removed. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:14, 28 April 2024 (UTC)

- This is about ice cream, not drinks. Changed to "seasonal varieties". ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:14, 28 April 2024 (UTC)

- Cones can be baked. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:14, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- as well as cookies for ice cream sandwiches, sauces, and toppings in-house. - Terms are very scrambled here. I have no idea where the word "in-house" is supposed to go.
- Fixed wording here. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:14, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- Cut "In addition to the shops"; add "also" before "operates"
- Done ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:14, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- Not sure why the phrase "do it yourself" is needed here
- Removed. Done ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:14, 28 April 2024 (UTC)

- Now says "seating area" ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:14, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- "has included" -> "includes"
- Done ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:14, 28 April 2024 (UTC)

- Persian Rose with cardamom, pistachio, and rosewater. - Unsourced.
- Ref 6 appears after the next sentence, but I've added an extra inline citation. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:14, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- "similar to Oreos" - So the cookies are black? I'd recommend excising this phrase.
- Changed to "Oreo-like cookies" ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:14, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- The Jitter Bars has caramel and homemade espresso shortbread. - Is this an ice cream sandwich?
- It is an ice cream flavor: https://sweetalchemyicecreamery.square.site/product/jitter-bars/172 ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:14, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- Wait... they can use Mighty-O's donuts in Sweet Alchemy? Isn't that like, stealing?
- The business collaborated, so permission has been granted. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:14, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- Vegan Blueberry Lavender is among vegan varieties -> "...vegan varieties include Vegan Blueberry Lavender" - Wait, couldn't you just cut "Vegan" in the name?

History
edit- in the space where she had worked at an ice cream shop as a student -> "...in the same space where she had worked as a student at another ice cream shop..."
- Done ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:19, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- Everything at Sweet Alchemy, from the chocolate fudge to their sundae kit, is made in-house. -> "Every ingredient is made in-house."
- Done ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:42, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- They even have a vat pasteurizer at their U District shop, which means they make their own ice cream base from scratch. For an ice cream shop, that's fairly rare. -> "The ice cream is produced with a vat pasteurizer at the U District shop." Also, cut the second sentence (sounds like it could belong in the reception section).
- Done ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:19, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- and shared an interest in sustainability - Not sure why this part is important
- Done ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:19, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- The outpost replaced Kurt Farm Shop, which was described by Eater Seattle as a "popular, hyperlocal ice cream stand" - I don't see the purpose of putting a comment here (not sure why we need to know Kurt Farm Shop's reception)
- Done ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:19, 28 April 2024 (UTC)

- Done ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:19, 28 April 2024 (UTC)

- Changed to "best ice cream shops and frozen dessert brands in the United States" ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:20, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- "If there were ice cream shops as good as Sweet Alchemy near every college campus, nobody would graduate." - I'm stealing that. That's funny.

- Done ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:20, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- Link gelato
- Done ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:20, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
