Missing Ken Casey stub

edit

The blue link to Ken Casey was actually leading to a homonymous Irish punk rocker. Since there's no article for the "real" Ken Casey, I've prefered to keep the bad link and insert over there a dab notice with a link to the composer's IDMb minibio, to give interested readers something. But if someone was dying to write a decent stub for, say, Ken Casey (composer), now's your chance! ;-) -- 62.147.39.24 21:05, 11 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've started it at Kenneth Casey. -- Beardo 07:54, 15 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Homonym jazz singer

edit

I found out there's a "black mama" jazz/R&B singer who took on the stage name of "Sweet Georgia Brown". From a cursory look, she seems notable enough that someday, someone will want to make her an article:

  • " Sweet Georgia Brown has performed with Dizzy Gillespie, George Benson, Fathead Newman, KoKo Taylor and Stanley Turrentine. As described in Ralph Cooper's book, she is "The Last of the Red Hot Mama's"! Starring in, "An Evening at the Cotton Club" as Bessie Smith, Georgia toured throughout Europe entertaining audiences with her high-energy performances of Jazz, Blues, and Gospel tunes. " -- from http://www.e-jazzonline.com/sweet-georgia-brown/ (a site endorsed by Dave Brubeck, see the top-right quote)
  • Her website http://www.originalsweetgeorgiabrown.com/

Until someone stub her, I'm adding a small dab notice about it to help readers.

Actually I always heard that "the Georgia brown" (note lower case B) was/is a sexual position involving IIRC the woman having one leg raised high in the air, and that the contrivance of the lyric as if to refer to a person (uppercase B) was another code phrase understood within the black community, a very common device in that time. Looked it up just now online and was surprised to not find it. But I heard that decades ago, before there was an internet. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.250.255.199 (talk) 22:06, 26 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Could somebody familiar with this song add a brief description/explanation of the lyrics somewhere please. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.221.200.61 (talk) 19:52, 15 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Answer: From internet:

Well let me tell you well no chick made

Could be the same

As Sweet Georgia Brown

Crazy feet that dance so neat

Has sweet Georgia Brown

Fella's sigh, and even cry

For sweet Georgia Brown

I tell you just why

You know I don't lie

It's been said

She knocks them dead

In any old town

Since she came right

It's a shame

How she brings them down
