Needs an example
editThis sort of stuff is always hard to understand without examples. Could someone who understands the topic please provide a clear example of symbolic power in the introduction (as has been done for symbolic capital for example).
Jargonesque
editThis article is in need of some serious work. It's pure academic jargon and does not belong in an encyclopedia.Hwhitbread (talk) 02:07, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
- Give it time. We're working on dejargonising the theorist and this will come next, with expansion. In doing that, I'm finding separate articles/stubs explaining Bourdieu's jargon very helpful, making it easier to do quickly. Julia Rossi (talk) 02:22, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Title
editThis article should be titled 'Symbolic power', not 'violence'. Seligenstadt (talk) 20:36, 15 July 2012 (UTC)
Quite. As the article also claims it's synonymous with 'soft power', and 'soft power' has nothing to do with violence. If anything it's the opposite. Ben Finn (talk) 17:19, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

Symbolic violence → Symbolic power – The whole article is about symbolic power. Symbolic power exists as a redirect to another page, but this could be clarified with a template at the top of the page. TheMightyQuill (talk) 17:08, 23 July 2013 (UTC)
