Removal of probable copyvio text

edit

After following the External link to the Syon Park official website, I noticed that quite a lot of the History section of this Wikipedia article had very similar wording to the History page of the Syon Park website. The text in question was added to the Wikipedia article en masse by an anon editor a couple of weeks after the article was first created, in 2005. The fact that it was added all at once and that the editor was an anon, leads me to believe that the WP article was copied from the official site, and not the other way around. Therefore, I have removed the paragraphs or sentences where the wording was very close to that of the official site, as a probable copyvio. This prunes the History section of the article way back, and we are going to have to build it up again, but this time without copying from another website, (although the official site could be used as an information source). Any assistance from other editors here would be appreciated. Thanks, Lini (talk) 04:06, 15 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Article title

edit

I have moved this article back to its common name: Syon House. The page move was ill-advised, but more concerningly "Syon House" was changed everywhere in the article, including the titles of books and published articles, when it is very clear from the sources that neither the books nor the journal articles were called that. Any further move of this page should be requested following the procedure for controversial moves at Wikipedia:Requested moves. DrKiernan (talk) 12:19, 2 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

uninhabited

edit

The article states this house is the London residence of the Duke of Northumberland. This is an error, while the Duke owns the property, he and his family have never spent a night in the house. The duke retains just two rooms which he uses for meetings when he is in London. The house is is preserved as a museum, but it is most definitely no longer a ducal residence. Having allowed a franchised garden centre to be built directly next to the house, a large hotel just a few metres from it, and every plane coming into Heathrow passing centimetres above the roof at the rate of one a minute, it is extremely unlikely the Dukes of Northumberland will ever inhabit it again. Perhaps the page needs to reflect this? Giano (talk) 18:25, 17 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Syon House and Lady Jane Grey

edit

The article currently states that Jane Grey was "living at Syon with her husband Guildford Dudley when she received news that she had become queen." This is an entirely false statement. Jane was living at her parent's home in Chelsea, while Guildford was with his father at Greenwich at the bedside of the dying King Edward VI. Jane was summoned to Syon from Chelsea on the morning of 10 July 1553, and was fetched by Dudley's daughter Mary, Lady Sidney. After learning of her elevation to the crown, Jane remained at Syon only one night before taking a barge to the Tower of London on Monday, 10 July 1553, as was customary upon the accession of any new monarch. She never returned to Syon. Spending one night at Syon hardly constitutes "living there." Could someone please edit the article accordingly? You can cite Leanda de Lisle's "Sisters Who Would Be Queen" or Eric Ives's "Lady Jane Grey." I do not make edits to Wikipedia pages because of the silly territorial squabbles that inevitably ensure. This was a long list, which is better as prose, and was largely uncited. I've put the uncited ones here, and they could be re-added, with cites. KJP1 (talk) 10:17, 3 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
