I strongly believe the use of a country/government infobox here is inappropriate. Members of the council have explicitly rejected comparisons to the NTC in Libya and said the National Council of Syria is not a government: [1] -Kudzu1 (talk) 22:25, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

The SNC was not formed in 2005. This is nonsense. There may have been a group of the same name at that time, and some people may claim that they are linked, but the SNC was clearly created in response to the uprising of 2011. France recognition

When I first came to this page, it said the organization was a terrorist group. Apparently this was the result of vandalism that has occurred several times in recent days. Recognition from the United States?

The US does not recognize the SNC as the legitimate government of Syria, they merely recognize them as a political organization/body. The Assad Governments ambassador to the United States is still accredited, ect.XavierGreen (talk) 02:31, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

Map

States that have not supported Syrian National Council yet? What does this mean? This statement implies eventual support for this foriegn based group will be granted by the countries in this color.

Libya's position

Today the Libyan authorities expelled the Syrian Arab Republic (Baathist regime) ambassador from its embassy in Tripoli [3]. So this move effectively means that the whole time that this article has said that Libya "diplomatically recognised [the] SNC as the sole legitimate government of Syria", in actuality the Syrian regime still had an embassy up and running in Tripoli, which means that Libya never officially cut ties with the current Syrian government. Instead it appears that Libya has a position similar to that of the United States, France, UK, and the Gulf monarchies, where although they are openly supporting the rebellion, they haven't completely severed all ties with the Baathist regime. --Tocino 19:58, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

Government in exile status

The fact that the SNC aspires to be recognized as a government in exile, even with Libya recognizing it as such, is clearly insufficient for any such categorizing or even stating that it is partially recognized as such, at least not without mentioning that partially in this case means recognized by one country, Libya. SNC 'runs the Free Syrian Army' - reference #12

Support and Recognition.

"Prior to joining the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces, the Syrian National Council had been recognised as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people by several UN member states."

This is pure political spin and I was surprised to read it. The fact would be that the Prior to... The SNC was not recognized as representative of Syria by the vast majority of the UN member states. Or even more objectively that the SNC is not recognized as representative of the Syrian people except by a few states.

There's little point in an article if it's used to do little but serve as an attempt to influence political discourse. Truly a trash article. I've donated ever penny it's worth. Two times it's value in fact. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.246.218.228 (talk) 20:40, 19 September 2013 (UTC)
