Flying vs. Airwalking
edithitsugaya's bankai doesn't allow him to fly. you might notice when hirako first made himself known to ichigo he was walking on air. ikkaku and eduardo were "flying" in their fight as well. there is no real flying per se in bleach. they are souls remember so just like a ghost they can natrually levitate like that. hitsu's bankai has nothing to do with it, its part of being a soul. if it was his bankai how was shawlong, renji, ikkaku, eduardo, il forte etc all flying in their fights? --Grimjaw 01:47, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
- Depends on how you want to look at it. The phenomenon that allows them to "fly" is by concentrating the spirit particles at their feet; Zangetsu explained that to Ichigo. Technically, they're "standing" and "running" in mid-air thanks to the spirit particles around them. Getting back with Hitsugaya, let's use episode 60(or 61) of the anime for reference. When Hitsugaya moves in to attack Aizen before Aizen owns him, it's given the impression that he rose, and flew(then crashed and burned) towards Aizen. And you don't think those huge wings are just for decoration, do you? --Chemicalist 16:12, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
Chemicalist is right. The standard airwalking technique is just the expulsion of reiatsu/spiritrons from the feet, similar to the Quincy speed boost technique where they collect spiritrons under them and essentially jet around on them. Hitsugaya is flying, because he is using wings to travel, whereas the others are merely running through the sky.--tjstrf 21:16, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
ikkaku used his hand to stop himself when knocked back by edorad...in the air. hirako was literally upside down if he was using his spirit particles at his feet he'd of fallen. the wings are not for decoration they are for blocking look at luppi's first attack, more so wings have to flap to make u fly, and u can't glide well while stationary like he would have had to do in ur anime example. --147.26.232.133 07:19, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
I agree with Chemicalist. However, the wing could be there to help him get off the ground, since he is young and might not have developed all of the necesary things needed for air-walking. Still not flying, though--Count Mall 22:06, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
In episode 104, in his battle with Koga, he looks as if he's using his wings to fly and maneuver in midair. It has always seemed to me that in Soul Society shinigami are affected by gravity and are unable hold themselves up with spirit particles like they can in the human world. But Hitsugaya hovers, moves around, and even reverses direction while in midair after he releases his bankai. Could this be evidence that he can fly? --Eruhildo 03:42, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
- Even if the wings permitted realistic flight, which they wouldn't given their composition, Hitsugaya's flight wouldn't necessarily be attributed to them. All shinigami can walk on air to one degree or another. Even Ichigo could less than a week after becoming one. I'd attribute the flapping to reflex motion. — Someguy0830 (T | C) 04:25, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
- Furthermore, the wings aren't actually flapping constantly to maintain flight, if anyone cares to look. Sephiroth BCR 04:26, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
Is it not likely that the wings help hitsugaya preserve his spirit energy by not having him expel energy to walk in the air? 70.59.226.234 (talk) 02:25, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
He is flying. If you notice in the pictures his feet aren't actually *standing*. The reason he's is not flapping constantly would probaly be because of the air reacting to his spirit particle charged wings. Moom.wolff (talk) 18:58, 2 February 2008 (UTC)moom.wolff
147.26.232.133 Raised an interesting point which can be struck down, gravity doesn't seem to affect a soul reaper in the real world when they pull sprit energy to thier feet. at that point, they seem to be able to walk on anything at any angle...possibly to combat holllows who can appear from any where and at any angle. I believe simply from his style of movements that he is flying, as he seems to move with the ice wings much the same way ichigo does when he's unleashed his bankai, the air will whip by him and usually his feet aren't being used for movement.--74.131.48.213 (talk) 13:38, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
Luppi battle
editDid he really kill Luppa? From all we know that Luppa could have survived the attack, since there was no direct indication of her complete defeat. (She could be injured, but survives)
- Hey, edits are cheap, and Luppi seemed pretty well finished. If it turns out we are wrong, we can always fix it. Also, Luppi seems to be a guy. --tjstrf 07:40, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
Yeah and luppi's name is luppi, not luppa. however i don't think grimmjow is the kinda person to take humiliation without killing the person responsible. It's safe to say Luppi is dead.--74.131.48.213 (talk) 13:40, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
Theme song
editThis article currently states that Hitsugaya's theme song is "This light I see" this is not true, it was only on a CD with songs done by Hitsugaya, Rangiku and Hinamori. hopefully this will be corrected with a bio of hitsugaya in the new volume 23--Lord Kefka 23:53, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
Height
editThe article currently states Hitsugaya's height as 133CM. Is there a citation for this?
Height and weight is shown in the databook.
No-Daichi
editHitsugaya's zanpakutou is worn on his back, because, like Ichigo's, it is not of standard size. Hitsugaya's zanpakutou is somewhat larger than a standard zanpakutou, and could be a No-Daichi. -Emhilradim 23:09, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
- During the fight between Hitsugaya and Ichimaru both swords look about the same size. I think it just looks big because Hitsugaya is only 4 feet 4 inches tall while everyone else is 5'6" to 6 feet tall. Just imagine a 10 year old wielding a 3.5 foot katana and you can probably see why Hitsugaya has to wear it on his back. Gdo01 23:18, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
- Ichimaru's sword is much smaller, more like a tanto or wakizashi (the anime depicts it as a wakizashi, but the games suggest it is a tanto). StardustDragon 04:37, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, it would probably drag on the floor if he wore it normally.--Count Mall 22:08, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
- And that would make him look like a kid, which he would hate. --Eruhildo 03:17, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
Yeah but still it seems that his zanpakuto is al least one inch longer than others.Ultimaterasengan 23:09, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- One inch? It probably varies in relative length by more than that from panel to panel. How are we supposed to tell? --tjstrf talk 23:13, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
How am I soupposed to know!? All we can really do is judge his zanpakuto with others, (excluding Gin's and Soifon's).Ultimaterasengan 01:25, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
- That's basically what one of the above paragraphs states. This is an old discussion. No need to get excited. Jezebel Parks 01:54, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
In the bleach world swords seem to be called kitanas no matter the length, which is subjective as you all know to the users riatsu and control of such. maybe at times his control over the length of his sword falters. however it should be generally judged by the length it appears on his back (which is standard for a sealed zanpakto of a captian level soul reaper in appearances) as the length may be exaggerated either to fit him and the sword in the panel or make him look powerful.--74.131.48.213 (talk) 13:44, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
Age?
editThe artical states that Hitsugaya is the youngest, but it never shows how old he is. Being a serious Whitey-Chan fan, this is probably the only thing I don't know. Help? 24.29.42.15 22:51, 29 November 2006 (UTC)Starletly
yeah but in the manga appears gin as a little kid when he enter the 13 squats killing some dudes in the arranca arc and after that chapter he is like in his 20 something and for others like aizen havent change a bit from a century early. how is that gin grow so much in a century and aizen havent change or the others chapter -105 page 18 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.183.213.97 (talk) 02:21, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
I don't think Kubo-sensei is going to get into how age/time works in Soul Society; thus, he's probably just going to stick to telling the ages of the human characters and calling the shinigami characters really young (like Shiro-chan) or really old (like Yama-jii).
Yeah, but if you browse other sites, it says that he's like 13 or something around there. I don't know if its true but he looks like a 13 year old, right?--Bloody rock princess 20:51, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
- But we don't know his age exactly. Plus, if Rukia as old as she claims in the first episode (100+) then, 13 is incorrect. In short, until we have word from Kubo, then there will be no mention of his age. Jezebel Parks 22:20, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
He is around 10 or 11 LOOKING! Because he is a Shinigami He is probaly centuries old. In Bleach they refer to him as a Elementary schooler. In Japan The school system is that elementart is up to 6th grade so he is probaly around there. Moom.wolff (talk) 19:14, 2 February 2008 (UTC)moom.wolff
Tch, honestly, look at the evedence! Ounce you enter Soul Acadamy time goes even slower, (aging for children is the same, it starts getting slow wen you get around 15) Momo was around thirteen or fourteen wen she entered Soul Acadamy, he entered either right before or right after she left (it'll say in Diamond Dust Rebellion) he was around twelve or thirteen then, so, how long ago was Momo in Soul Acadamy? I think Rukia said something about how long ago she attended, her and Momo were there at the same time, I think, considering Kian evedence, she had been there 10-20 years ago? So, do the math, 'cause I'm bad at math! -CaptinAsagi —Preceding unsigned comment added by CaptinAsagi (talk • contribs) 18:12, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Bankai
editI've noticed that his sword in bankai is different than in sealed form or in shikai. His sealed sword's guard is shape of a four-pointed star, but in bankai his sword's guard that star is at least eight-pointed.
- That's pretty normal, since the entire point is that the bankai changes the form of the sword. I hadn't noticed though. You may add it if you wish, but it would be nice if you could point out a page where it's clearly shown. --tjstrf talk 22:56, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
it can be seen in manga chapter 170 page 19. I let someone else to add this in order to be in nice english (not just like mine)
voice actor.
editSo... where do people find the VA's for the characters, and if they got it from A.N.N., how did the person who put it there find out?
Just a thought, concerning Hitsu's VA.
- Some people look at all the VA's resumes, until they see the character's name imprinted in there? That's my guess. But it takes a lot of time. They also just guess, usually. Weird0 06:42, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
- I know some VAs blog about the roles they've picked up, so a lot of it probably comes from that. In general though, the information just leaks out through the internet until someone adds it, and we usually turn a blind eye and hope it's correct until we get the official credits. --tjstrf talk 08:20, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
- PAKU ROMI! Come on guys, how can you possibly not recognise her voice? @@ Edward from FMA? Usually fans of seiyuu (VAs) are on a constant lookout for what roles famous seiyuu are doing next- and of course, you can always look at the credits.
- In this instance, they were discussing his English voice actor. We know it's Paku Romi. Jezebel Parks 01:44, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
Shawlong battle
editI find it weird that everything about Hitsugaya is elaborated except for Shawlong's battle with him. Every other character has their fight during this time mentioned but Hitsugaya's battle with Shawlong has never been added except for the part in powers talking about the incomplete bankai. I'll write it myself once I have the time but I just find it odd; a small sentence would have been enough. Gdo01 06:42, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Trivia
editSince the trivia section disappeared, I'm posting here to see if someone wants to attempt to merge it. 71.226.56.79 09:38, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
- The first character in Hitsugaya's given name, Tōshirō, means "winter," which is appropriate given his white hair and zanpakutō.
- His given name is also a homonym for a casual Japanese term meaning "amateur" (藤四郎), possibly referring to Hitsugaya's young age and inexperience relative to the other captains of the Gotei 13.
- Hitsugaya dislikes warm weather and summer in general, fitting when compared with his zanpakutō's ability to control ice.
- While brought forward as calm and mature, some childish parts of him still seem to be present. For example, during the ending credits of Sealed Sword Frenzy, he was in the human world and dressed in a young boy's school uniform, and Hinamori had to practically drag him out of hiding.
- The "flowers" that appear behind Hitsugaya during his Bankai are shaped exactly like the tsuba of his Zanpakuto.
Hitsugaya's Nickname
editThe article spells Shiro-chan as シロちゃん, but shouldn't it be spelled 白ちゃん? I haven't read the manga so I wouldn't know. I'm just basing it off of what would make sense in Japanese. --Eruhildo 03:15, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
- I believe it was meant as a pun (on the pronounciation). An example would be comparing the shirō in Jūshirō with that in Tōshirō. One is 四郎, the other is 獅郎, but both are written the same in katakana (and hiragana). So シロちゃん (in katakana) should be more suitable to emphasize it as being a pun. Ahtoid 05:29, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
- plus, in the manga, shiro-chan is spelled in katana シロちゃん anyway hehe =P Aoikumo
- Thanks for the info. --Eruhildo 18:22, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Some people spell his name Toushiro, others Toshiro, wich is it? -CaptinAsagi —Preceding unsigned comment added by CaptinAsagi (talk • contribs) 18:14, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
- When romanized his name is actually tōshirō, but since many people don't know how to make the ō, people but a 'u' next to the 'o'. it's not just him, characters in other animes have the same thing (like kikyo in inuyasha) so, both are wrong, but it doesnt matter which you use. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chibi-Chan501 (talk • contribs) 09:01, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- Those are just different romanizations of とうしろう (the furigana for his given name). On Wikipedia we use Tōshirō per MOS-JAPAN. --Eruhildo (talk) 21:06, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Twice
editIt say's "His given name is also a homonym for a casual Japanese term meaning "amateur" (藤四郎), possibly referring to Hitsugaya's young age and inexperience relative to the other captains of the Gotei 13" twice. Why does this article need to exist?
editThere's zero real-world notability for Hitsugaya. If we merged Grimmjow and Ulquiorra, we should merge him, because his page is essentially the same thing. Suigetsu 23:41, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
- Hitsugaya has a potential for improvement (ie. reception info existts). Grimmjow and Ulquiorra did not share that potential. ~SnapperTo 23:44, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

- Couldn't find anything in IGN last night in my huge-ass sweep of character reception additions, despite the fact that Hitsugaya reception was my primary target in that escapade. Even if we can't find the information that already exists, apparently Kubo is in America for a convention according to SJ. Maybe they'll score an interview with him? Not a bit of notability has come up in a month. I suggested a merge, since this article is little more than fancruft about a character that otaku's go crazy about. 70.138.167.143 (talk) 17:49, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
- Otaku? Well, maybe fujoshi, but Hitsugaya's mostly popular with the kids. As for whether we merge the article or not, I don't really care either way, as he's had very little actual plot relevance. --erachima talk 18:13, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, to be honest we don't have much in-universe shit on him either... what is it that makes this guy so popular? 70.138.167.143 (talk) 00:01, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
- Added a bit of reception and considering that the Kenpachi article was not merged, I think its okay.Tintor2 (talk) 17:46, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- Kenpachi's, however, is strengthened by the various conception information we have from Kubo, such as the thing about his hair and wanting to go more in-depth with him. We have one quote and Newtype for this one. My vote still goes to merging. 207.80.142.5 (talk) 18:17, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

- Once again, conception info from Kubo in addition to the quotes from IGN > Newtype and one quote from ANN. However, since you also got the part about merchandise (which could have saved Urahara's article, on reflection), I think the article is fine. Suigetsu 23:16, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
New picture of Hyourinmaru?
editThe new Movie; DiamondDust Rebbellion offers a crystal clear picture of Hyourinmaru, and in my opinion, it looks better than the current one we have. It's different, also.
I would put it up but there's one thing bothering me. It was Kusaka's Hyourinmaru, so I don't know if Hitsugaya's Hyourinmaru looks exactly the same, since in the movie, they don't.(Kusaka's Hyourinmaru's form and color are slightly different)

- "Tōshirō Hitsugaya" is equally, if not more so, preferred by WP:MOS-ANIME and WP:ANIME as that is what he's called in the manga. ~SnapperTo 19:09, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Popularity
editI've removed the comment from the head of the article, saying he was voted most popular in the "latest Shonen Jump polls". I searched back through the edits two years (back to Dec 2007), and the statement was present even then. So what defines "latest"? Note that no date was attached, nor any updates given to reflect this character's popularity in any subsequent polls.
I'm also looking at the "latest" and "recently" comments in the Reception section of the article. Terms like this shouldn't be used, as they become meaningless as time passes. -FeralDruid (talk) 07:19, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
- Found the edit that introduced the Reception section, and the "latest polls" comment on 3 October 2008.[1] -FeralDruid (talk) 07:28, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
- And here's the edit that introduced the "latest polls" comment in the header on 3 January 2007.[2] -FeralDruid (talk) 07:32, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
- I found a reference to four popularity polls on the Bleach wiki[3], as of February 2008. So I changed the "latest" polls reference under Reception to say "early 2008" as there's no specific date given (January or February). -FeralDruid (talk) 07:42, 27 December 2009 (UTC)

Comments: This article is fairly well written and broad in its coverage with the exception of Toshiro's bankai which is not really discussed despite the picture being used to depict it, possibly raising an issue with NFCC. Hitsugaya.jpg is missing the episode credit. Preferably I'd do a one with a sakuga credit from Kenichi Kunsuna or something... but that's just me. I saw some of Shinichi Kurita's stuff earlier, but I don't think you can get a good reliable source for the movies though. I'll leave it up to you though. Some prose fixes:
- "Hitsugaya excelled the Soul Reaper academy.." - in the
- "In Bleach" goes against WP:MOSFICT.
- " by Aizen who has faked his death." - more examples of prose issues.
- "To help Ichigo regain his Soul Reaper powers and combat Kugo, captain-commander Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto orders the Soul Reapers to give some of their spirit energy." - "give Ichigo" you mean.
Not much else in terms of the actual prose issues, but that MOSFICT matter is an issue here. I'll place it on hold for fixes, its not bad, but just needs to fix copy edited for the Appearances and some info on his bankai added. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 17:10, 6 January 2014 (UTC)
- What can you say, @ChrisGualtieri:? Gabriel Yuji (talk) 03:37, 9 January 2014 (UTC)
- I may say bankai information is fancruft, and I even don't know if that image is necessary. For instance, the word "bankai" is not even mentioned in Rukia Kuchiki that is a GA from a Bleach character. Gabriel Yuji (talk) 20:42, 9 January 2014 (UTC)
- It is really borderline, but I think I could pass it. Though since it is out there... shouldn't it be added if possible? It would be like three sentences at most. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 04:43, 11 January 2014 (UTC)
- Ow man, it's seems a great information to be included, from the viewpoint, off course. Also, where in text there is a good place to fit it, and mantain the structure? I can't imagine it in an encyclopedic way or in way that it would seem to be dropped at random there. If you have a suggestion to do it, I wouldn't oppose but I think it's really difficult. - You can detail bankai after the second sentence. The first two sentences seemed to act like an intro. "His sword's name is blah blah and allows him to manipulate ice. The sword's bankai name is blah blah which gives him a dragon themed armor made of ice granting him higher mobility; his bankai also increases his ice manipulation powers." Then you'll have to redo the sentence after it to fix the flow. DragonZero (Talk · Contribs) 08:03, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

- Passed. The bankai issue is trivial at this point. Added or not added, I won't hold this up. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 17:00, 19 January 2014 (UTC)
