Additional info/Amendment to TCL Electronics Page
editHi Wiki editors,
This is Calvin of Bluecurrent Group acting on behalf of TCL Electronics, who would like to suggest the first batch of edits below for consideration.
--BCHK c (talk) 13:44, 1 November 2019 (UTC)
- Too long. I put it in draftspace instead. Draft:TCL Electronics.
- For the content, list of sponsorship deal seem not an encyclopedic content. Also, list of products may be not that encyclopedic either, unless that RS had in-depth coverage on that product that merit the product as notable / revolutionary / should be mentioned. Matthew hk (talk) 13:56, 1 November 2019 (UTC)
- And here is the link for making edit request Template:Request edit. Follow the template instruction to put it here to request simple edit. Matthew hk (talk) 13:58, 1 November 2019 (UTC)
- More minor suggestion. website should use
|website=
instead of|publisher=
. I have no time to fix it, but you can do it in the draft. Matthew hk (talk) 07:48, 4 November 2019 (UTC)
- More minor suggestion. website should use
Thanks Matthew. I will look into it and make the necessary changes asap --BCHK c (talk) 10:48, 4 November 2019 (UTC)
- Matthew, I have added some more suggested changes in Draft:TCL Electronics. Shall i paste everything here or shall I do so in the draft page instead? For the proposed content, this is with reference to the format/topic of the published content in other brands' wikipedia pages that hold similar business nature as TCL Electronics. I am pretty much following a similar path but let me know if you think otherwise.
- I also plan to upload a company image, just checking to see if I should make the request for the main page or draft page for now as a non-autoconfirmed user? --BCHK c (talk) 08:13, 19 November 2019 (UTC)
Some proposed changes
editThis edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest was declined. The requested changes do not incorporate WP:SECONDARY sources. Reasons for each individual change have also not been provided. |
Information to be added or removed: See Draft:TCL Electronics
Explanation of issue: To update outdated content and to supplement existing content. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BCHK c (talk • contribs) 08:13, 19 November 2019 (UTC)

edit- There are two issues with the suggested changes:
- The requested changes are accompanied largely by primary sources when Wikipedia prefers — to a greater degree — WP:SECONDARY sources originating from reliable, independent publications.[1]
- Reasons have not been provided with each requested change. All additions and subtractions from an article require reasons for their needing to be made.[2]
- To that end, please reformulate your request, taking care to ensure that a larger selection of references used are to reliable, independent, secondary sources, and that reasons are provided with each individual change.[a] An example for how one such substitution can be made is depicted below:

Please remove the first complete sentence from the first paragraph of the introduction section: "TCL Electronics Holdings Limited is a Chinese company based in Shenzhen (but incorporated in the Grand Cayman, the Cayman Islands; listed in Hong Kong) which manufacture television and other consumer electronics." 2. Please add the following as the first sentence of the first paragraph under introduction section: “TCL Electronics Holdings Limited, a subsidiary of TCL Industries Holdings, is a Chinese consumer electronics company headquartered in Guangdong, China (but incorporated in the Grand Cayman, the Cayman Islands; listed in Hong Kong. Stock code: 01070.HK.).” 4. Reason for change being made:
1. Please remove the second & third sentence from the first paragraph of the introduction section: “It is a subsidiary of TCL Corporation for 52.10% shares (via "TCL Industries Holdings (HK) Ltd."). Leshi Zhixin (via HK incorporated "Letv ZhiXin Investment (HK) Ltd."), an associate company of Le.com, also owned 20.09% shares.[1][2]:44"“ 2. Please add the following after the first sentence of the first paragraph under introduction section: “Today TCL Electronics’ business spans more than 160 markets around the world including North America, Europe, Asia, Middle East, Africa and South America. TCL Electronics specializes in the research and development and the manufacturing of TV products with large sales volumes globally. In 2018, the company was ranked second in the global TV market by shipment with a market share of 10.9%, according to IHS Markits. Apart from its core TV business, TCL Electronics is continuously pushing forward business diversification in areas such as headphones, sound bars, commercial displays and smart home products so it can continue to grow as a company. TCL Electronics is to become a major smart technology company and has adopted the strategy "A.I. x IoT" focusing on technological innovation, R&D and manufacturing, so as to provide its customers around the world with products and services that help them live a smart and healthy life.” 3. Reason for change being made: The ownership structure and percentage are no longer valid. Information of such will be mentioned under the company info box and therefore it’s a duplication to include here. I would suggest replacing that with a more in-depth background introduction of TCL Electronics’ business nature, structure, scale and strategies. 1. Please remove the second paragraph from the introduction section: “TCL Multimedia's Hong Kong headquarters was in 13/F, TCL Tower, 8 Tai Chung Road, Tsuen Wan, the New Territories.” 4. Introduction #1 1. Please remove the first complete sentence from the first paragraph of the introduction section: "TCL Electronics Holdings Limited is a Chinese company based in Shenzhen (but incorporated in the Grand Cayman, the Cayman Islands; listed in Hong Kong) that manufactures television and other consumer electronics. It is a subsidiary of TCL Corporation."
“TCL Electronics Holdings Limited, a subsidiary of TCL Industries Holdings, is a Chinese consumer electronics company based in Shenzhen (but incorporated in the Grand Cayman, the Cayman Islands; listed in Hong Kong. Stock code: 01070.HK.).”
#2 2. TCL Electronics is to become a major smart technology company and has adopted the strategy "A.I. x IoT" focusing on technological innovation, R&D and manufacturing, so as to provide its customers around the world with products and services that help them live a smart and healthy life.”
#3 1. Please remove the third sentence from the introduction section: “ The company also has offices in Hong Kong.”
This line doesn't give much context in getting readers to understand more about TCL ElectronicsIf we are to include information about the HK office, then we would suggest to add the full principal address of TCL Hong Kong Address reference:"Interim Report 2019" (PDF). The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. September 23, 2019. p. 2 para. Retrieved November 22, 2019. |

- The company being a subsidiary of TCL IH was added to the lead.
- The proposal regarding "today's TCL Electronics" was not added, per WP:NOTBROCHURE.
- The mention of the company's offices in Hong Kong was omitted.

- Hi @Spintendo:, can you advise how the paragraph can be further amended to pass this guideline as i can see a number of pages also reference information from company websites or PRnewswire for their intro. Thanks! --BCHK c (talk) 14:30, 20 December 2019 (UTC)
- Hi @Spintendo:, Can you please suggest on how to amend the second point, in order to pass the guideline? As I can see quite a few companies including LG Electronics and Samsung Electronics also mentioned similar information, including their size of global businesses and global market share. --BCHK c (talk) 11:42, 27 December 2019 (UTC)
- I would suggest you read the information at WP:NOTBROCHURE in order to revise the proposal so that it does not read like an advertising brochure for the company.
"TCL Electronics is continuously pushing forward business diversification in areas such as headphones, sound bars, commercial displays and smart home products so it can continue to grow as a company. TCL Electronics is to become a major smart technology company and has adopted the strategy "A.I. x IoT" focusing on technological innovation, R&D and manufacturing, so as to provide its customers around the world with products and services that help them live a smart and healthy life.”
It goes without saying that claims of the company delivering a "smarter healthier life" are not appropriate for the article. Everything in the second part of your proposal which makes the company sound efficient, technologically savvy or beneficial to human life are all descriptions which should be assiduously avoided. editThe following is my feedback on your proposal:
Today TCL Electronics’ business spans more than 160 markets around the world including North America, Europe, Asia, Middle East, Africa and South America.
- This is already in the article, where it states "TCL has set up production and marketing systems in dozens of countries and regions worldwide." Dozens of regions would mathmatically encompass a large portion of the planet if one counts regions as Asia, Europe, North and South America, Africa and the Middle East, leaving six more regions to go.
TCL Electronics specializes in the research and development and the manufacturing of TV products
- The article already states that it manufactures televisions.
with large sales volumes globally.
- What large means here is unclear. Large as opposed to what? Large according to whom? Is this large-ness for one year, or two years, or a decade?
In 2018, the company was ranked second in the global TV market by shipment with a market share of 10.9%, according to IHS Markits.
- What methadology does IHS Markits use to arrive at this distinction?
Apart from its core TV business, TCL Electronics is continuously pushing forward business diversification in areas such as headphones, soundbars, commercial displays and smart home products.
- "Continuously pushing forward" means what exactly?
TCL Electronics has also adopted the strategy “A.I. x IoT” focusing on technological innovation, R&D and Manufacturing
- That TCL has adopted a strategy of innovation is neither suprising nor encyclopedic in value as a statement. How and in what way does using this strategy help to "focus" on innovation? Please advise.

editPlease check out my responds based on your feedback previously given:
Today TCL Electronics’ business spans more than 160 markets around the world including North America, Europe, Asia, Middle East, Africa and South America.
- We would like to include the sentence as it further clarifies TCL’s span in the world.
TCL Electronics specializes in the research and development and the manufacturing of TV products
- As TV manufacturing, research and development are the core business of TCL, we would like to emphasize that once again. This sentence also helps to connect the first and the second part of the paragraph, to make the entire thing appear to be more coherence.
with large sales volumes globally.
- TCL is reported by Business Insider to be a leading TV company in the global market. The global brand TV sales volume of TCL Electronics recorded significant growth of 21.2% Y-o-Y in the first 3 quarters of 2019. With having the growth rate ranks top 2 in the US market.
- TCL is therefore a top player in the TV market, and have a large sales volume globally.

In 2018, the company was ranked second in the global TV market by shipment with a market share of 10.9%, according to IHS Markits.
- IHS Markit has a timely, quarterly updated TV Sets Market Tracker. IHS Markit’s database contains data of actual shipments from Q1 2013 to the most recent quarter. Metrics include shipments, revenues, average selling prices and shipment area—further parsed by manufacturer, display technology, screen size, and resolution across eight major world regions.
- Moreover, TCL has been steadily moving up the market share chart in the U.S. and North America, it’s reported that TCL holds No.1 TV market share for North American unit shipment in 2019, according to the research from IHS Markit.

- “Pushing forward” means to continue to innovate and develop more variety and higher quality products. TCL will never step back or stand still and will continue to be the leader in the electronic market.
- For instance, TCL has just roll out a new Alto 9+ Soundbar during CES 2020. The soundbar was reviewed by What Hi Fi as a feature-packed Atmos soundbar at a bargain price, and it is a product of note at CES 2020.

- TCL has recently announced its launch of a Smart range of AI-powered television and air conditioners along with TCL Home App. After the success and rapid growth in the TV segment, TCL is now wanting to disrupt the home entertainment space with its focus on AI-driven smart TVs and IoT enabled Air conditioners. editThe suggested changes are not merely new/past product announcements, but also a reflection of the company's achievement in different aspects in the TV space based on third party sources (For example: First 3D internet TV, Debut of QUHD TV-Quantum Dot TV etc.). It would be helpful if you can review again and reconsider what changes can be implemented. --BCHK c (talk) 22:21, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
