Gardel is French
editGardel is French, not Uruguayan. See Talk:Carlos Gardel#Birth certificate.. There used to be a controversy on Gardel being French or Uruguayan, but no longer: the birth certificate is a definitive evidence that finally settles things. He should be removed from the list of notable people from this city Cambalachero (talk) 00:00, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
- Your affirmation can be true, but this section only mentions a CLAIM. The section doesn't affirm he was from Tacuarembó, nor this possibility. Scheridon (talk) 00:26, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
- Did someone in Uruguay acknowledged the birth certificate and upgrade the claim? Something on the lines of "Yes, there is a French birth certificate, but we still consider he was Uruguayan because... (reasons)". Cambalachero (talk) 00:32, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
Hi both, I was intrigued by this conversation, certificate of birth and all, and just asked an Uruguayan sitting next to me about it. She said Gardel was born in Uruguay and the certificate is fake and that it's the people of Argentina who invented this story :) So talking from immediate experience, I find that the controversy that "used to be", is still very much alive, if you live in the Uruguayan side of things. Of course I can't source my claim, so I don't plan to interfere about it in the article. Cheers. Hoverfish Talk 02:10, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
- Actually, the investigation was led by one Argentine and two Frenchs, so it isn't an Argentine trick. If it was an Argentine conspiracy, the birth certificate would have been found at some hospital at the "El Abasto" neighbourhood :) And yes, to consider that the controversy is alive we should have authors, not common people, disputing the birth certificate (as they would have to actually provide proof or a solid reasoning for doing so). This is fresh: http://www.elpais.com.uy/120930/pciuda-666720/ciudades/En-Argentina-no-dejan-en-paz-a-Gardel/ - I would say that Scheridon's edit is valid for what it states. Hoverfish Talk 10:47, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
