"The abandoned tin mine ground was donated by Chung Thye Phin as a recreation park for public use."
Chung Thye Phin was born in 1879. By 1884 he would have been 5 years old. There is always confusion between what my Grandfather Chung Thye Phin did and what his father, my Great Grandfather Chung Keng Quee did. For example, I have had to correct newspapers and magazines who attributed the construction of Chung Thye Phin's Relau Villa, to Chung Keng Quee. CKQ died in 1901. Relau Villa was built in the 1820s. In the case of the Taiping Lake Gardens, it was CKQ who donated abandoned or disused mining land, and contributed, with others, towards the cost of the $500 fountain. The development of the Taiping Lake Gardens spanned decades, and if CTP had donated land for the purposes of expansion (which is entirely possible) it would have been well after his fathers death, certainly not in the 1880s.jefferyseow (talk) 09:27, 18 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
