Displaced Person vs. Refugee

The statement that most residents were originally displaced persons but are now refugees could use an explanation.Bill (talk) 18:22, 4 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Bill: There's a solid explanation in the article on displaced persons: "While some displaced persons may be considered as refugees, the latter term specifically refers to such displaced persons who are receiving legally-defined protection and are recognized as such by their country of residence and/or international organizations." They were displaced persons who later gained legally-defined protection of refugees. (This explanation should have come a long time ago!) - tucoxn\^talk 20:02, 26 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
