Operas set in the US cat
editI temporarily removed this cat because the article doesn't make it clear that it is set in the United States. Is the Gate's home in the USA?Singingdaisies (talk) 16:35, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
- Well, the passage from the opening quoted in Time indicates it is set "somewhere in Suburbia," and the characters refer to Laura's father as being from West Hartford--seems to me a fair reading, especially considering that the composer resided in Manhattan at the time, but I'll leave it to you to make the final decision. Incidentally, for some reason the Time reference that I included, which should link to a reprint on the Web, isn't working right, and I can't figure out how to fix it. Any chance you could give it a look? Drhoehl (talk) 23:11, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
- I fixed the ref. I agree that it is the United States now that I've actually seen the Time magazine article. Of course it is possible that this opera could be viewed as being set in multiple locations given the miracle scenes...Singingdaisies (talk) 23:29, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
