Contested deletion

edit

This page should not be speedy deleted as an unambiguous copyright infringement, because... (your reason here) --Lester-bangbangs (talk) 22:47, 11 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hey Etzdek, I appreciate you reviewing this page. It looks like I borrowed phrasing a bit too liberally from AllMusic. If possible I'd like to just rewrite the verbiage tomorrow. And then resubmit? Would I just alert you here on this page once I think its been adequately rewritten?Lester-bangbangs (talk) 22:47, 11 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Lester-bangbangs: Borrowed phrasing liberally is a stretch. Much of the bio is copy-pasted wholesale. You need to view the copyvio report (it's linked in the CSD notice) and then delete/rewrite the offending material in your own words unless an admin deletes the page first. Copyvio is a serious issue and frankly, I'm surprised that the page is still up. --Etzedek24 (I'll talk at ya) (Check my track record) 01:41, 12 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Etzedek24: Fair enough, I didn't mean to downplay or minimize the violation or protest the speedy deletion nomination, I meant to admit fault and look for a way to move forward productively. I suppose the inflection and subtext in my head don't always translate on Wikipedia talk-pages. I knew I slapped it together too quickly I wanted to finish it before going to an appointment yesterday. My mistake. Being somewhat new here I guess I'm still feeling things out. My general MO adding to existing pages is to find a source that says the thing I think should be added, paraphrase the section of the source I think should be included and then drop that in along with the citation. The way I've tended to write new articles is basically the same process scaled up + using a Wikipedia page on a similar subject as a template or model. I was working too fast yesterday, though, I acknowledge it and I didn't put the prose through the same mental and formal filter that I usually do. You are correct to say that some sections were cut and pasted (as many of the music reviews I sometimes cite in music related articles seem themselves to include sections that are directly cut and pasted from each other and from the one-sheets that music journalists receive--not an excuse, I understand. I'm just describing the online environment I spend time swimming around in). I've rewritten the article more or less the way that I think it should have been written yesterday. Is there a text-checker behind the scenes here that you guys run these articles through to check them that I can check it with, or is all that done independently? Just trying to figure things out here.Lester-bangbangs (talk) 17:05, 12 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Lester-bangbangs: There's no need to apologize--you acknowledged the mistake and fixed it, which is a lot more than I'm used to seeing on new pages. Just be mindful of it in the future, I guess. Also--no need to apologize for contesting a CSD. Sometimes it's right to contest them, but I will say you were pretty lucky that an admin didn't delete the page since the material was left up for so long. Typically, with copyvio, they're very fast. Perhaps they saw our conversation. Best of luck in the future. Cheers, Etzedek24 (I'll talk at ya) (Check my track record) 18:48, 12 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
