Modernized Tamerlane chess revival looks like this. It fills in the citadel gaps with more squares, puts colourbound pieces on 2 different coloured squares and also adds a queen. It also adds pawn initial double steps and en passant. Pickets and bishops are in the same game now. In this diagram, pickets are represented by inverted bishops and alfils are represented by the musketeer chess symbol for the elephant. It also has José Raúl Capablanca's hybrid pieces.

A Tamerlane chess modernization.

The archbishop moves as a bishop or knight.

The chancellor moves as a rook or knight.

idea: modernized tamerlane chess

Following the variants on the CV Pages, we can have:

• Board expanded to 10×12, with a commoner between the king and general.
• Pickets become bishops.
• Giraffes become gryphons.
• Instead of wazir, ferz, dabbaba, and alfil, we have WA, FD, WD, and FA.

I used to be a bit more naughty about following WP:TPG. ;) The first three are variants by one Eric Greenwood listed on CVP; not sure if they have any actual notability elsewhere. Wild Tamerlane chess is similar to Tamerlane chess. It is played on an 11×11 board.

The elephant now moves as Alfil+Ferz.

The war engine now moves as Dabbaba+Wazir.

Confusions with Ferz / Wazir

There is a lot of confusion on that article and its diagrams (as on 2020/08/02). For each player, the Ferz is at King's left and the Wazir at King's right. The Ferz (=General, Counsellor) is moving 1 space diagonally The Wazir (=Vizier, Governor) is moving 1 space horizontally or vertically Both text and diagrams should be corrected to be aligned with the sources. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cazaux (talk • contribs) 07:02, 2 August 2020 (UTC)

Citadel disambiguation page

Within Tamerlane chess are things known as "citadels". Does this warrant an appearance on Citadel (disambiguation)?

Okay. Let's get into this. In Wikipedia:Disambiguation, all the stuff I managed to comprehend basically said that disambiguation pages can only link to articles whose titles directly contain any given ambiguous name, but I've seen disambiguation pages that refer to sub-topics instead. Does that actually violate Wikipedia policy? I mean, probably not, but I'm unable to tell because it is so incredibly difficult to find what I'm looking for in that article. I would've just asked someone, but I genuinely do not know who could answer me.

I see that in the disambiguation page Queen, there is an entry referring to the article on Carrom. So if you were to do the analagous thing with Citadel (disambiguation) and Tamerlane chess, you wouldn't be the first. As someone largely unacquainted with chess variants, I would not say one way or another as to whether this would be a helpful thing to add to that disambiguation page. Musketeer Chess Board Painting Tools do support a lot of icons to use for the camel, dabbaba, alfil and wazir. The ferz icon used in the article looks like a queen.
