Source

The infobox and the before/after box are almost 100 years off with regards to the years of Tang's reign. Anybody know of any sources for the two? --Turbothy 23:27, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

The source prior to about 900BCE is hard to define, most scientist believe that the War between Zhou and Shang happened in 1046 BC. While others believe this year was 1027BC, to 1152BC. The funny thing is, the Shang dates are more messed even than Xia, because Xia mainly focused on 471 years or 431 years.Dongwenliang 02:15, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

c. 1600s BCE, like the infobox says. We don't have firm dates for any of the pre-Yinxu Shang monarchs, because we don't have any other archaeological sites firmly identified with Shang culture. There have been attempts to backtrace the regnal dates of the Shang monarchs using the Bamboo Annals ever since their discovery, but this method is not considered reliable. Academic consensus agrees on certain assumptions we can make about the historical and archaeological record, but anything more granular than a century is false precision given what we have to work with.
