I think that the name Tapiola, Michigan probably does not come from Tapiola, Espoo, Finland, because Tapiola, Espoo, was constructed and named in 1950's and my guess is that Tapiola, Michigan is older than that (if not, please, correct). Tapiola is a name that comes from the mythology of Kalevala and therefore it is a common name in finland as a young, national romantic surname, kind of which were adopted in the beginning of 20th century or so, and as well it is common in young place names from the same period such as names of houses and farms or newly established housing areas. The name Toivola is a similar, common, young name in which "toivo" = "hope" and "-la" is a suffix for place names.
