editHi, I was wondering whether the title of the article Taraf Kingdom is appropriate or not. I titled it as such, directly translating it from the Bengali "rajjo". However, the modern definition of kingdom is different. Taraf was nearly always a feudal territory, and rarely independent. Do you recommend changing it to Taraf State or something else? - That's a good point. I'm gonna check if there's much of a precedence for this sort of thing with similar article subjects. Could I get back to you a bit later?
Alivardi (talk) 02:29, 1 November 2020 (UTC)- "Taraf State" is a good possibility, though I wonder if it gives an impression of political continuity which may not be entirely accurate, considering Taraf effectively ceased to exist a few times throughout history. Articles about historic areas which existed under similar circumstances seem to favour including "region" in brackets after the title [e.g. Bhati (region), Media (region) and Syria (region)]. However, that sort of title may not be a perfect fit here since this article focuses on the history of Taraf as a political entity rather than as a nebulous geographic area. Personally, I think the safest option would be to just do "Taraf (Bengal)"; its technically accurate and avoids the above issues.
- Remember, most of this is just my own personal impression so feel free to disregard it and go with whatever you think is the best fit.
