TAFE & US community colleges?
editIs TAFE similar to community colleges in North America? Perhaps this can be discussed in the article. Perhaps not everything has to link back to an equivalent in the USA.
- I'm not familiar with Community Colleges, but from the Wikipedia article they sound less trade-focussed than TAFEs. I would lean away from mentioning the US equivalent anyway because there's no particular reason to single out the US equivalent but not mention (eg.) the Japanese, German, Saudi Arabian [...] equivalents. --Irrevenant [ talk ] 04:18, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
Nepean?
editWhat abou the Nepean campus, such as Penrith and Kingswood? --Kirbysuperstar 12:02, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- Nepean did a merger with Western Sydney Institute of TAFE --Breno talk 12:34, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
Wait what?
editIs it my imagination or does a lot of this article look biased; as in it looks like advertising and propaganda. --163.232.50.17 (talk) 00:47, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
- Not your imagination, and seeing as this is supposed to be an article about some educational institutions, that's pretty pants-on-head retarded. 220.245.195.140 (talk) 13:17, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
- Absolutely. For example, when were the various State-based independent Technical Colleges collected together under the TAFE banner? Like, what is the history of the TAFE system? What happened during the Hawke/Keating years? 124.171.245.136 (talk) 07:42, 25 March 2016 (UTC)
Quality of Teaching
editDoes anyone have any sort of useable source about TAFE's reputation in industry? My experience is that (at least in the engineering field) TAFE qualifications are generally considered meaningless and their teaching quality atrocious. In the nursing field it seems that TAFE qualifications are thought to be taught to a better standard than university. A (non-biased)discussion of TAFE's position in society might be appropriate if applicable sources can be found. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 168.132.121.146 (talk) 05:35, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
Australia only
editThis appears to be an Australian only term. What's the basis for the claim its used elsewhere in Oceania? 121.99.217.170 (talk) 08:09, 10 November 2022 (UTC)
- I've never heard this used in New Zealand. The only reason I know it at all is because of "Sunshine TAFE hairdressing academy" referred to in the film The Castle. 219.88.232.196 (talk) 08:27, 9 January 2024 (UTC)
