Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. The word "movement" does not appear at all in this article. Primefac (talk) 10:08, 28 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Partly done: NYT nor Art Critical mention photography, street art, or "works on paper". As a tip for quicker responses, please sensibly group your edits into one request, rather than line-by-line changes (e.g. put what you want the resulting infobox code to be in <pre></pre> tags). And please include direct quotes so we can verify these claims. SWinxy (talk) 22:27, 5 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thank you @SWinxy:. Here are direct quote references, let me know if these help?

Done. Just wanted to make sure it's accurate. SWinxy (talk) 22:45, 9 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks @SWinxy Question: How can the messages be removed from the page? #1. The major contributor appears to not be contributing to the page edits any longer and that message is old. #2. The biography is of a dead artist (not living) and the references are 100% reliable and published sources (Three New York Times articles and Three ArtForum articles, among others) none of the references are primary sources.
1. A major contributor to this article appears to have a close connection with its subject. (October 2021)
2. This biography of a living person relies too much on references to primary sources. (May 2022) 69.206.171.142 (talk) 02:06, 10 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
I removed the warnings at your suggestion (note that I also agree to ask "lol why are they there"). The article doesn't ooze WP:NPOV violations, and he's also... like... not alive? No idea why it was like that. I suspect part of it has to do with why the page was protected in the first place. One thing I would like to do is to bring this article up to a shine. I encourage you to create a Wikipedia account so it's easier for you to contribute. Another way to contribute is to add references in the {{refideas}} template I added to the top of the talk page so I can more quickly get things in. SWinxy (talk) 02:49, 10 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
@SWinxy Thanks for removing the warnings and I created a Wiki account. I will send suggestions for edits with references. Typoswanlyee (talk) 12:36, 10 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Edgarheady: are you Abby Robinson? I've found this image used on MutualArt.com, and want to make sure that it's your own work. On one hand the mutualart site has a small resolution with no credit, but on the other hand your account was created just today. SWinxy (talk) 03:10, 10 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
@SWinxy Yes I am Abby and permission for it to be used. Also the Ted Stamm Estate gives permission. Edgarheady (talk) 12:31, 10 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
I uploaded a cropped version of the file. Biographies tend to have portrait images (as opposed to landscape). The file description and authorship is copied over to the new file. Thank you! If it's not too much, would you mind emailing Commons' VRTS to confirm that you indeed are the owner of the copyright? Emailing them will avoid it possibly being nominated for deleted in the future. SWinxy (talk) 22:55, 10 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks I sent the VRT an email too. Edgarheady (talk) 23:12, 10 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hell yes! Thank you so much! VRT has verified it. I'm very glad you donated it! SWinxy (talk) 21:03, 12 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

edit

@SWinxy:

I went through all the text and suggest the below edits per section.

1. Introduction

From:

Ted Stamm (1944–1984) was an American minimalist and conceptualist painter.[3]

To:

Ted Stamm (1944–1984) was an American minimalist and conceptualist artist.[3] Stamm is written about as an artist that has the ability to see the world in an original way.[3] Stamm’s work has been included in solo and group exhibitions in the United States and around the world.[7] His work is in prominent museum collections is privately and publicly permanent collections. [19][22][23][24]

Edit suggestion rationale: Since Stamm works with paintings, works on paper and street art the term “artist” would be a more appropriate broad term than just a “painter”. Added quote from the NYT that was written about Stamm being an original artist. Added one line from each section, “bio”, “work”, “exhibition” and “collection” sections to provide a short introduction overview.

2. Biography

From:

Ted Stamm was born in Brooklyn in 1944. He grew up in Freeport, New York. He graduated from Hofstra University with a Bachelors of Fine Art (BFA) in 1967, and moved to Soho. His studio located on Wooster Street in Soho inspired his "Wooster" series of works.[4] Stamm received fellowships in painting from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, Fellowship in Fine Arts (1983) and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), Fellowship in Painting (1981–1982).[5] During his life he participated in solo and group exhibitions in the United States and around the world.[6] In 1974, Stamm started working with shaped stretchers, introduced the element of line into his paintings and created a new iconic series of work that he continued to develop throughout his life.[7][8]

To:

Ted Stamm was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1944. He grew up in Freeport, New York. He graduated from Hofstra University with a Bachelors of Fine Art (BFA) in 1967, and moved to Soho in downtown Manhattan, New York. His studio located on Wooster Street in Soho inspired his "Wooster" series of works.[5] Stamm received fellowships in painting from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, Fellowship in Fine Arts (1983) and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), Fellowship in Painting (1981–1982).[6] During his life he participated in solo and group exhibitions in the United States and around the world.[7] Stamm also taught at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, Hofstra University and the C. W. Post Center on Long Island, among others.[3] He died at the age of 39 due to a congenital heart defect.[16][17] His career highlights include a solo exhibition at a major institution MoMA PS1[24], included in group exhibitions at a major institution MoMA PS1[24], collected by a major institution Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)[24] and reviewed by a major art publication Artforum[2] and The New York Times[3].

Edit suggestion rationale: Added more specific locations details and dates. Also moved the “death” section into the biography, which is more appropriate to tell the story of the history of the deceased artist. Added career highlights.

3. Work

To:

Stamm’s work predominantly developed in series, such as Woosters, Dodgers, Concorde, Zephyr and Cancel series throughout his artistic career [2] [3]. He started his conceptual based works in the early 1970s with shaped paintings and drawings with elements of lines [2][7].These works were titled as part of series inspired from everyday places and things he continued to simultaneously work on these series and exhibit them throughout his career[1]. The “Woosters” series derived from the street where his studio was located on Soho and inspired by a found form. The Dodger series inspired from the Dodgers baseball team and shape relates to the baseball field shape, lines and the abbreviations used in baseball[1]. The “Cancel” and Chance “Roll” series used aleatoric techniques using participants to toss a die or roll a roulette wheel, to determine the number of layers of black paint or type of black that a canvas or work on paper was to receive[2]. The series each consists of a variety of sizes of paintings, drawings, works on papers, photo documentation and studies. Stamm’s work also included photographic documentations of his street art he titled “Designators” at site-specific installations of graffiti tags around New York City [2] Stamm's innovations have not gone unnoticed, his work has been included in exhibitions around the world[3].

Edit suggestion rationale: Add more information about Stamm’s artwork series and inspiration.

4. Exhibitions

From:

Stamm had his first solo exhibition at Artists Space, New York in 1975 at the age of 31.[9] Later that year he had his first exhibition in Europe at Galerie December in Düsseldorf, Germany.[10][11] In 1977, Stamm was included by curator Manfred Schneckenburger in Documenta 6 in Kassel, Germany and by curator René Block in the exhibition New York – Downtown Manhattan – SoHo held at the Akademie der Künste in Berlin.[12] Also in 1977, Stamm was included in A Painting Show at MoMA PS1 in New York.[13] In 1978, he exhibited at Hall Bromm's gallery.[14] Stamm exhibited at 112 Greene Street (1975), Artists Space (1975,[15] 1980) and Franklin Furnace (1977, 1980).[citation needed]

To:

Edit suggestion rationale: Add more information about Stamm’s exhibition history.

6. Death

From: Death He died young at the age of 39 due to a congenital heart defect.[16][17]

To: Delete section, moved to Biography section.

Thanks so much @SWinxy How does the article get a better rating, from the C-Class it is currently listed at on the project's quality scale? Typoswanlyee (talk) 11:51, 11 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Those ratings are meant to help WikiProjects get an idea of how good the articles under their scope are. The grading scheme is covered at Wikipedia:Content assessment. It's not regularly updated, but I'll change it once it's 'done'. SWinxy (talk) 19:40, 11 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

I've implemented what I felt was appropriate 1-2 weeks ago, and excluded what was puffery. Tone is important, so things like Stamm’s work has been included in solo and group exhibitions in the United States and around the world are not neutral, and read like a fan would write. The protection ends on the 8th, meaning you will be able to edit the article as you wish. So here's the deal: you make edits directly to the page, and I'll alter them if I need to. But in general, as someone who is interested in Stamm, you should be able to edit with the knowledge of policies like WP:NPOV and guidelines like WP:WTW. Thank you for your contributions to this article; you have massively improved it. I will be here for any reason if you need me. SWinxy (talk) 21:55, 3 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Caution

edit

Hi @SWinxy:. For background, please review Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Eashleyfox and accept their requests with caution. These edit requests are possibly coming from a banned user who has a clear COI. The person is dead, but this sock is profiting from their work and want to use Wikipedia as a commercial vehicle. Any thing which links to tedstamm-com or books written by Jensen are their work and they may earn from these links. Thanks. 23.159.16.190 (talk) 18:40, 9 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Many thanks. I had my fears. I didn't accept these requests verbatim (see above), but I still changed things that were reasonable. While I read the SPI archive, I didn't think to do a geolocate check from the new IP. Same general location. SWinxy (talk) 19:48, 9 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Edit requests, other eyes requested

edit

I received a few edit requests for the page, presented below for feedback and potential implementation:

  1. Citation related to Special:Diff/1103454080: Franklin Furnace artist file : miscellaneous uncataloged material
  2. First two sentences of #Biography (DOB, birth place, university) is apparently sourced to Ted_Stamm#cite_note-nyt-2

At the moment I do not have access to that second reference, hence the request for another set of eyes and opinions. Primefac (talk) 18:03, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

The NYT article does not include his DoB or birth place. I've reordered the citations/tags for those two sentences. I'll have to (god forbid) go outside to go to MoMA's library or whatever to see if I can verify the Franklin Furnace material. SWinxy (talk) 19:12, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
If you can find time, great. I've removed the YOB for now, and the second {{cn}} wasn't necessary due to there actually being a source. I think that takes care of all of the needed citations; now it's just making sure anything added in the future has them. Primefac (talk) 13:39, 14 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
