Move to Jerusalem

edit

User:Galatz: You've removed referenced info regarding President-elect Trump's plan to move the US embassy to Jerusalem. Sure, it hasn't happened yet, but as per RS I think this should be in the article/lede.Zigzig20s (talk) 14:32, 9 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Regardless of the RS presidential candidates make claims of things they will do all the time, and often times they don't happen. Until Trump is president and he signs a bill stating it will move, its just talk. Per WP:CRYSTAL: Individual scheduled or expected future events should be included only if the event is notable and almost certain to take place. You cannot say that its almost certain to take place. Too many variables right now for it to be able to be included. - GalatzTalk 14:48, 9 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
I think its fine to add now that he is president something about it. But I do not believe he has publicly addressed in his official role. Supposedly that announcement is coming today, but until it does who knows. I think the words "he has stated that his intentions" are probably the best way to word it. - GalatzTalk 15:44, 23 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

The White House press secretary has released an official statement. They said that no final decision has been made [1]. They also said its not currently on his agenda [2]. Therefore I feel that based on WP:CRYSTAL its impossible to say he is interested in it. There could be some wiggle room for saying he campaigned on it, but I think its best to wait until something official is said once becoming President. Every candidate makes empty promises on the campaign trail. - GalatzTalk 19:53, 23 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Subhead: Security concerns

edit

All U.S. Embassies have security concerns; some U.S, Embassy pages have subheads: Security concerns. However, this section merely asserted that such concerns exist and linked to 2 terrorist attacks that have taken place in Tel Aviv. I have no objection to an editor writing a section on security concerns on the model of the section at Embassy of the United States, London. But it needs to be like that section in articulating the concerns particular to that embassy, with sources.E.M.Gregory (talk) 21:47, 22 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

I agree, the RS should specifically state why the terrorist attack is a concern for the embassy, and should really include official comments from a person in position to state that on behalf of the US. - GalatzTalk 15:42, 23 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Consulate or Embassy?

edit

Has or is the Tel Aviv building going to officially become a US Consulate? From the sources I have seen the building in Tel Aviv still officially an embassy for now. C. 22468 Talk to me 12:12, 14 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

According to the embassy web site, the Tel Aviv building a branch office of the embassy in Jerusalem. This page should be merged with the new Jerusalem embassy page and the old Jerusalem consulate page should be restored as the mission still excites separate misson Bens (talk) 14:34, 14 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Somebody better get control of this article. It is a branch office of the Embassy in Jerusalem. It has nothing to do with the Consulate General in Jerusalem which is an autonomous post not under Chief the authority of the Ambassador. They represent the US to Jerusalem, Gaza and the West Bank. This is very badly messed up. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tomholladay (talkcontribs) 20:09, 14 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Mess With Move To Jerusalem

edit

The edits today with the move to Jerusalem seem to have caused a big mess.

In reality the Consulate General still exists in Jerusalem, and is still headed by Donald Blome. The Embassy in Tel Aviv opened an small office for the Ambassador in Jerusalem, with the old building in Tel Aviv acting as a branch office of the where the bulk of Embassy work is still conducted. Only office space in the Consular Section Building on David Flusser Street of the Consulate General was transferred to the embassy.

I propose we fix this mess by reverting the name change of the Consulate General of the United_States, Jerusalem and ether renaming this page to Embassy of the United States, Jerusalem or renaming this page to Embassy of the United States, Israel (Tel Aviv Branch Office) and adding a new page for the Embassy in jerusalem Bens (talk) 20:03, 14 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Per [3] the embassy is now in Jerusalem. Tel Aviv is now being called called a "Branch Office." --Jersey92 (talk) 02:44, 15 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

"one of only two American embassies not located in the national capital"

edit

The text stating that the embassy was "was one of only two American embassies not located in the national capital (the other being the Embassy of the United States, The Hague)" is not true, since the American embassy in Malta is located at Ta' Qali in the limits of Attard, not the capital Valletta. I have therefore edited the text to read that it "was one of the few American embassies not located in the national capital (others including the Embassy of the United States, The Hague)". --Xwejnusgozo (talk) 13:29, 15 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

The US Embassy in Malta is listed as "US Embassy Valetta" and I think the US Embassy is in the Valetta Urban Area. C. 22468 Talk to me 03:09, 16 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
