Keep Telecentre
editThere is a distinction between telecottage and telecentre. These are not one in the same, but they do follow the same strategy. Telecentre is a significant concept in Corporate Real Estate, Facilities Management and Teleworking. As the growth of attention in RE&FM turns to Green initiatives, this strategy will become less obscure. I personally have found the reference helpful in making a clear definition and name to the concept.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 08:18, 2 October 2007 (talk • contribs)
- I think the term telecottage, as used in some places in Europe and perhaps other industrialized countries (but not in the United States) relates to telecommuting. It is indeed quite different from the telecenter concept as understood around the world.Bfillip 22:19, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
- I agree with Bfillip which is why I took the liberty of removing the telecommuting link from the external links section. Also, upon consultation with a seasoned Wikipedian Chzz we decided that it would best to remove the banner on the article page regarding merging the telecenter into the telecottage article, as it seems that everyone on the talk page is in favour of keeping them separate. If I am mistaken please let me know and I'll be glad to discuss this issue. Mrawahi (talk) 03:10, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
Seems like notability concerns have been resolved.
editThere are now plenty of citations here. Can someone check this and consider removing the flag? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.62.158.205 (talk) 12:35, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
French
editTelecentre is a french word. The correct english word is Telecenters. Regards. --Elmorsa (talk) 22:46, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- Note that, by convention, the singular is used in the title rather than the plural. Also, while 'center' is correct in US English, 'centre' is correct in the UK and many other countries. Klbrain (talk) 03:30, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
Merger proposal
editThe computer technology center page is woefully out-of-date. It cites few sources, and it talks about CTCNet, which is a long-ago defunct organization. It talks about things in the present tense that should be talked in the past tense. It doesn't mention digital literacy at all. This page, IMO, should be merged with the telecentre page, with the information about CTCs in the USA, Australia and the UK in particular from the 1990s and 2000s added into that telecenter page (and this info being updated!). CTCs played a huge role in many communities in the 1990s and 2000s, and there has to be some significant academic research on their impact that is worth citing. Also, there are still CTCs / telecentres in the USA, such as Austin FreeNet, in Texas. -User:Jcravens42 (talk) 11:11, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
- Agreed. Merger complete. Klbrain (talk) 03:25, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
