Lagos State Telecoms masts tax

edit
Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), telecoms industry regulatory body in the country, has kicked against the plan by Lagos State government to impose annual levies on all existing telecoms masts in the state.

NCC also pleaded with the state government to put a stop to the sealing and pulling down of telecoms masts in the name of regulation.

Head, Compliance, Monitoring and Enforcement Department of NCC, Maska Ubale stated this at a stakeholders’ meeting, which featured telecoms operators and the state government, represented by Urban Furniture Regulatory Unit (UFRU), an agency charged with the regulation of telecoms masts and towers in the state.

Ubale, who led the NCC team, stressed the implications of imposing annual levies on telecoms masts and the possible dangers that may result from sealing and pulling down of masts.

The NCC therefore, agreed that operators should obtain permit and right of way before installing masts in the state, but will seek to avoid the imposition of levy on existing masts and towers in the state. [1]
