genocides?
edit- ... three genocides known collectively as the Kinslayings committed by Fëanor's people.
A genocide is a campaign whose purpose is to wipe out a people. Each of the Kinslayings was a side-effect of an effort to seize something inanimate (the ships or, twice, the Silmaril of Lúthien). —Tamfang (talk) 06:58, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
- Fixed. Couldn't think of a word that properly described the so-called genocides, so I removed that section. Hackeru (talk) 15:49, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
Physical appearence
editAnyone have a citation for their hair, size and complexion? Skimming through my books at the moment of any mention of the Teleri's looks, but can't find it. Hackeru (talk) 15:04, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
- [moving new section to bottom]
- There's a mention somewhere that Galadriel's hair combines her Teler mother's silver with her Vanya grandmother's gold. (The assertions as to size and complexion surprised me too.) —Tamfang (talk) 22:21, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks, it's a bad habit of mine... yes, I have that page bookmarked somewhere as well. Their hair seems, though this is only speculative, to be silver in the royal line (Elwë, Olwë, Eärwen, Celeborn, Miriel) and branch out into blond (Thranduil and Legolas - assuming that Oropher was kin to Thingol) and finally become dark in the non-royal Teleri. Still looking for the mention of their body size and complexion though (admittingly, I don't have Children of Húrin with me right now...). Hackeru (talk) 22:56, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- Update! Gone through all my books (except LotR and the Hobbit since they make no mention of Teleri anyway), and have not found any source of their physical appearence. I assume that's why there's "probably" and "perhaps" in it. Hackeru (talk) 19:38, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
- Edit: "The Teleri were in general somewhat less in build and stature than the Noldor." (Unfinished Tales) Found it. Hackeru (talk) 01:42, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
- Second edit: "The Loremasters also supposed that reference was made to the hair of the Sindar. Elwe himself had long and beautiful hair of silver hue, but this does not seem to have been a common feature of the Sindar, though it was found among them occasionally especially in the nearer or remoter kin of Elwe (as in the case of Cirdan). In general the Sindar appear to have very closely resembled the Exiles, being dark-haired, strong and tall, but lithe. - The History of Middle-earth, vol. XI, The War of the Jewels: "Quendi and Eldar," p. 384" I'm at a loss here. Hackeru (talk) 02:51, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
- Hello, where is the source of their light brown skin? I've never encountered such skin color regarding Tolkien's Elves, they are always pale in texts. If there was such information regarding early phases of creation, then it should be marked as early/rejected idea. Please do not place such informations without giving sources. - Don't know why you make it sound like I wrote that, but I'll remove it. I suppose whoever wrote it first thought that, as a sea-faring folk, they would be much more exposed to sun and salt-water which would cause a deeper tan. Hackeru (talk) 19:20, 26 June 2012 (UTC)
