Rewrite
editI have started rewrite in Talk:Sri Dalada Maligawa/Temp. Feel free to contribute. Regards!--Chanaka L (talk) 11:28, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
- Let's keep the discussion here then shall we? If we are going to write a detailed article, I suggest we follow the shortened footnotes method for referencing, since we'll have to cite the same book several times. Once we have got some information together, we can get properly working on the structure. ≈ Chamal talk ¤ 12:27, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
- Changed ref style. Yeah It is a good idea to determine what should be the sections. So here is some of my thoughts.
- History
- Architecture
- Associated buildings (Magul maduwa(Audience hall), Chamber of Rajah the elephant, Maha maluwa)
- 1998 Terrorist attack
- One more thing, I had to admit that I don't posses materials to expand this to a 30k article. I am aiming at 10-15k one. Let's see what we can do here. Best!--Chanaka L (talk) 02:41, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
- Sounds fine. We'll also have to include some details about the perahera too. I won't be able to do much until the weekend, when I can get some sources. Let's just get the information together first. ≈ Chamal talk ¤ 02:51, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
- Existing Esala Perahera article is sourceless. I won't be able to participate in writing in the weekends. So shall I propose a different scheme. As I already gathered my sources I have clear idea what should I'll be writing. So I'll go ahead with writing and You can join in the weekend. If there any facts contradiction arise let's discuss it later. I believe CactusWriter is going to keep this temp only for 7 days. Hope we would be able to do a fine job here. Best!--Chanaka L (talk) 03:39, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
- Yes. You can add the information you have, and I'll try to find some more. Once we have enough information put together, we can work on the structure and include finer details. ≈ Chamal talk ¤ 03:49, 17 September 2009 (UTC)

(out) So far so good--Chanaka L (talk) 04:01, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
- Hey, I have been following this situation for the past couple of days but I am sorry that I haven't been able to contribute anything, I am pretty busy at the moment, but while I was on youtube I came across a documentary about the Sri Dalada Maligawa or Temple of the Tooth [1] and thought it might be use full to some extent. I hope you guys can make any use of it, and I will defiantly contribute to this article when I have time but in the mean time good luck.--Blackknight12 (talk) 09:03, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
- I was thinking a leaving you a message in your talk page. However you noticed this before I doing so. I watched the video. It is very nicely presented. It back some of the facts of the article. But as far as I know youtube is not considered a reliable source. I am almost done with main facts. So hope BK would contribute fine tuning the article. So cheers!--Chanaka L (talk) 10:46, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
Name
editI am wondering whether we should rename the article to Temple of the Tooth. Simple Google scholar and Google books search revealed following results
search | sri dalada maligawa | dalada maligawa | temple of the tooth |
---|---|---|---|
scholar | 168 | 232 | 38,500 |
books | 659 | 732 | 2870 |
Besides my Cambridge paperback encyclopedia , ISBN 81-7596-073-6 {{citation}}
: Missing or empty |title=
(help) also gives the name Temple of the Tooth. Therefore according to WP:PLACE could we adopt the English name?--Chanaka L (talk) 03:52, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
- Also per WP:UE, I agree. Sri Dalada Maligawa is not used much in english sources even in Sri Lanka, and the Sri part is commonly omitted in general use. The widely used and known name worldwide is temple of the tooth AFAIK. But shouldn't we wait until the copyright issue is resolved until we go for a move? I don't know - I'm not familiar with this process. ≈ Chamal talk ¤ 05:26, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, after the copyright cleaning of course.--Chanaka L (talk) 06:05, 18 September 2009 (UTC)

Page Heading
editThis is the most sacred place of worldwide Buddhists. The Original name of this is Sri Dalada Maligawa( ශ්රී දළදා මාලිගාව) (In Sinhala,Pali,Sanskrutha). The original name of the place should not convert into English or other language because of this is the name of the place and 100% of religious pilgrimages called this place as Sri Dalada Maligawa ( ශ්රී දළදා මාලිගාව).The page heading should be changed as Sri Dalada Maligawa.
- See WP:COMMONNAME - "Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's "official" name as an article title; it prefers to use the name that is most frequently used to refer to the subject in English-language reliable sources." --NeilN talk to me 10:48, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
- I would also suggest using the original name, see d:Q289175--Oursana (talk) 13:51, 7 September 2014 (UTC)

- The brick wall which runs along the moat and the Bogambara lake is known as the water waves wall. Holes in this wall are built to light coconut oil lamps.
Sorry, but "built to light them"? Could this possibly mean the holes are there to hang lamps? – AndyFielding (talk) 06:20, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
