Infobox
editThere is no rules which state that we have to have a Olympic event box. No other olympic tennis event has this infobox. Why is Sportsfan 1234 continuing a well passed it argument. Games of the world (talk) 18:10, 27 July 2021 (UTC)
- Maybe we should add the infobox to the other tennis events. -- Jonel (Speak to me) 18:46, 27 July 2021 (UTC)
- We' don't need infoboxes duplicating information. People ain't stupid. Games of the world (talk) 21:32, 27 July 2021 (UTC)
- I am not sure I understand this? The tennis infobox has literally the same information except the athlete total. Just stop your disruptive editing and please review Wikipedia:OTHERTHINGSEXIST Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 23:31, 27 July 2021 (UTC)

@Games of the world This is an Olympic event and all other articles have the same template as per WP:OLYMPICS. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 18:49, 27 July 2021 (UTC)

- All the prior Tennis Olympic articles use a tennis infobox. Hasn't that been adequate? However this was missing info and logo. Was something recently discussed and changed that I may have missed? I didn't see it at WikiProject Olympics or WikiProject Tennis. Fyunck(click) (talk) 22:24, 27 July 2021 (UTC)
- Its not adequate because this is an Olympic tennis event, hence the Olympic infobox should be used as per WP:OLYMPICS standard (every other sport uses this in the lead). Because the other tennis articles only use the tennis infobx doesn't mean it can't be changed. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 23:29, 27 July 2021 (UTC)
- I'm not saying it can't be changed, I'm saying I don't see that "requirement" listed in discussions. It certainly makes things look more cluttered, so if messier is what you are shooting for you have been successful. Fyunck(click) (talk) 04:28, 28 July 2021 (UTC)
- That is your opinion, and I respectfully disagree. An Olympic infobox exists for Olympic events, and this is ultimately an Olympic event. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 18:21, 28 July 2021 (UTC)
- A tennis infobox exists for all tennis events, and this as ultimately a tennis event. So yeah we do disagree on how we approach this. And there is absolutely nothing that says the Olympic infobox should be above the tennis infobox, so there is a lot of "opinion" seeping into this article. Compromise is what we strive for here, but I haven't seen enough input to figure out what the compromise should be. It should certainly be done in a sandbox where others can comment and tweak until most can come to some common agreement. Fyunck(click) (talk) 18:50, 28 July 2021 (UTC)

Introductory section
editA lot to like about this article - very comprehensive. The key issue I have is with the introduction for which there are several issues: - The two sentences starting from "In the past" (note this term does not add value as the rest of the sentence makes sense without it):
-- do not make clear if ranking points were only attributed to singles players; -- discuss 'until the 2012 London games' and then in the next sentence 'No points were awarded prior to or for the 2016 Rio ...' - what does 'prior to mean or is it incorrect/redundant? Should it say for and after?
- Highlighting key achievements has its place but it is a selective approach focused primarily on the 1988+ era so it doesn't surprise me to see a recent addition (Nicholas Massu achievement) for a post 1984 achievement listed as an all time one when it clearly isn't. To help resolve this I recommend stating something like "the first time a competitor won both a singles and doubles tournament at the same Games was for men at Athens (1896:John Boland) and women at Paris (1900: Charlotte Cooper). - I also favour highlighting the attempts to achieve a clean sweep (or whatever else it may be better known by) for each of the Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles. Recommend something like: "No competitor has ever won gold medals in each of singles, doubles and mixed doubles at the same Games with closest to achieving this being Laurence Doherty and Reginald Doherty (1900: Paris) and Suzanne Lenglen (1920: Antwerp) who each won two gold and one bronze medal".
