I think this synthesis is wrong. I would expect (see any undergrad textbook):
(CH3)3CMgBr + C2H5Br -> (CH3)3C.CH2.CH3
The synthesis using this reaction would be
(CH3)3CMgBr + (CH3)3CBr -> (CH3)3C.C(CH3)3
BUT as I remember from undergraduate chemistry (now >40 years ago!) the yield is very small from tertiary halides. Perhaps a genuine expert could verify my recollection, and perhaps suggest a practical synthesis? Mikalobacus (talk) 17:11, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
