-The Advantage was founded before the Minibosses according to all music.

Not to mention they're much better at their instruments.

note: the advantage was not formed before the minibosses. there was a band called 'generic' that consisted of spencer, the drummer of the advantage/guitarist of hella, and at its earliest only shared one other member from said band. he has since left the band. "Nick Rogers and Forrest Harding are the two original members that started the band, and Cassie Stewart was featured on bass for awhile as well. At the time the band was called Generic." should be removed altogether. -shawn phase

-Still hardly a Minibosses clone though. That would imply The Advantage heard the Minibosses and wanted to be like them, there are quite a bit of video game cover bands as of recently, that may have done just that, but reading the allmusic pages on both The Advantage and The Minibosses would imply at the very least neither band influnenced the other and they started at about the same time. The way they each handle the covers are also far different.

-Added a little about the history of the band. When I spoke with spencer seim, the story as he told it was that he was in high school and heard about "some dudes" doing nintendo covers, so he asked them if he could play drums, and they accepted him. I am assuming that the people he meant were Rogers and Harding. I don't know Spencer's age, but I am pretty sure that if we look at the time line, Generic predates the Minibosses, and when I asked him about it, he definitely didn't mention any other bands as being influences, he just said "it kind of sucks, because we were doing it first." If someone wants to edit that paragraph with the the info in a way that is structured better, go ahead. --Iggy The Reaper 22:49, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

I just modified the "nintendo" into "famicom" since it would mean that they make only musics of metroid, kirby, mario etc, "nintendo games" and not "the games from the nintendo entertainement system" because megaman is from capcom, castlevania is from konami etc. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.241.196.60 (talk) 11:39, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
Named for the controller?

2004 Tour CDs
editThe article has two different CDs listed as being self released in 2004
2004 West Coast Tour CD (February, 2004) Self Released 2004 US Tour CD (October, 2004) Self Released
As far as I can tell, these are the same thing. Does anyone know what if any difference there is in the West Cost Tour CD? I'm not going to condense the list down but I might have to put an ugly citation needed tag on the West Coast Tour CD because I can't find anyone who has heard of it.
For the record, the 2004 US Tour CD I have is 6 tracks with each track being performed by only one member. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.208.184.214 (talk) 14:45, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
Requested move 29 December 2017
edit- The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
No consensus to move at this time. For those in support of moving this page, I would recommend finding other notable uses of the exact term. I would be surprised if there was not a film or periodical or even another band by this name. See, e.g., this and this. bd2412 T 18:01, 7 January 2018 (UTC)
The Advantage → The Advantage (band) – "The Advantage" is a common term, which should not be tied to one musical group. It could refer to many of the entries at Advantage (disambiguation), which is where the current title should redirect. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 22:59, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
Support Reasonable. Chubbles (talk) 23:07, 29 December 2017 (UTC)- Oppose as unnecessary overprecision per WP:PRECISE. Of all the articles on the dab page, only the band's own album, and possibly the ship (if you stretch it) could be titled "The Advantage". Someone taking the trouble to search for or link to "The Advantage" (as opposed to "Advantage") most likely wants the band and should not be forced to go to a dab page. If anyone feels there's any potential confusion, a hatnote could be added to the article that would not inconvenience the majority. Station1 (talk) 19:48, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
- Not so, @Station1. "The Advantage" could also refer to The Advantage (album), Advantage of terrain, or any of the ships named HMS Advantage.
It is bizarre to claim that the majority" are best served by giving the bare title to this minor band. Pageview stats show that comparing the band with the other pages above the band got 69 hits in 90 days, the HMS Advantage (W133) got 70, and Advantage of terrain got 1,356. The band isn't even in contention for primary usage of the bare title. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs)- The band page was just restored; it had been deleted for a year and a half and existed only as a redirect. The pageview statistics are unreliable as an indicator. Chubbles (talk) 12:23, 2 January 2018 (UTC)
- I wasn't aware of recent restoration, but even so I do hope you wouldn't claim that the band exceeds the pageviews of Advantage of terrain. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 17:19, 2 January 2018 (UTC)
- Pageviews aren't, in general, a good indicator of priority on short timescales, and it's been a week. People searching for "the advantage" aren't looking for "advantage of terrain". Chubbles (talk) 18:40, 2 January 2018 (UTC)
- People searching for "the advantage" are way more likely to be looking for examples of the hundreds-of-years-old concept of "the advantage" than for an obscure indie band named after the concept. Hijacking a dictionary term in this way is classic systemic bias. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs)

- Oppose It might make sense for Advantage but "The Advantage" is clearly the name of some entity.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 23:08, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Zxcvbnm: if it's the name of an entity, then the ship HMS Advantage (W133) is way ahead until a late-December a spike in pageviews for the band, partly caused by this move discussion. Even with the spike included the ship is still ahead (70:69) on total views in the last 90 days.
But why claim it isclearly the name of some entity
, when by the overwhelming usage is to refer to the concept? It makes no sense to let a microscopic dot in music hijack a dictionary term. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 12:13, 2 January 2018 (UTC)- Please see note above about unreliability of pageviews, since this title was a redirect until a week ago. The whole point of my restoring the article is that they aren't a microscopic dot. Chubbles (talk) 12:23, 2 January 2018 (UTC)
- Ah, c'mon @Chubbles. The band may scrape pass en.wp's notability threshold now, but compared with topics which are hundreds of years old, a small indie rock band is a microscopic dot. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 17:14, 2 January 2018 (UTC)
- Well, that was enough to change my mind! Chubbles (talk) 18:40, 2 January 2018 (UTC)

IP 107.77.219.92
editThis IP has repeatedly removed the word "nintendocore" from the page several times, and I'm unsure whether this is simple genre-warring vandalism or an actual content dispute. The first edit had a summary of "Deleted information that was simply wrong". I pointed out that the band is highlighted as a representative Nintendo rock group on the nintendocore page and added sources. IP, do you have an argument to make here? Chubbles (talk) 16:03, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
- It's sourced, so it should stay until the IP editor (or anyone else) gains consensus to remove it. Woodroar (talk) 22:40, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
