Talk:The Bear (TV series)

Latest comment: 13 minutes ago by StefenTower in topic Is The Bear a comedy?

How do you determine which if any episodes deserves it's own Wiki page?

edit

At the time of asking this question, only S1E7 and S1E8 (Review and Braciole) have their own pages.

From an under-educated and very casual Wikipedia person, I feel like the acclaim from say S2E6 and S2E10 (Fishes and The Bear) are worthy of pages.

Or why not might as well make Wiki pages for all the episodes? If someone got started on the first 2 (Review/Braciole), might as well, right? Duyneuzaenasagae (talk) 04:00, 1 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Please see WP:NEPISODE which states: An episode of a television series is not inherently notable simply because it has aired. No, not every episodes deserve an article. — YoungForever(talk) 04:12, 1 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Okay, but that again leads to the main question "How do you determine which if any episodes deserves it's own Wiki page?"
Looking at you Review and Braciole. Duyneuzaenasagae (talk) 04:44, 1 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
"Review" and "Braciole" have articles simply because an editor took the time to create them and were able to flesh them out with plot, production, and reception information with many reliable sources as references. Please see WP:NTVEP for more info regarding articles for TV episodes. Drovethrughosts (talk) 11:10, 1 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Is The Bear a comedy?

edit

While it was nominated and won awards as a comedy, it's curious to me that it was defined as such -- and given others edits I see similar comments. Perhaps this deserves a new section in the article to address the issue of what genre this show actually is? Burtherman (talk) 19:24, 25 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

For example, the BBC address this here: https://www.bbc.com/culture/article/20240116-emmys-2024-why-people-are-baffled-by-the-bears-wins.

Clearly this is a topic of debate that could be addressed in the article Burtherman (talk) 19:29, 25 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Nolowook If you want to discuss your reasoning for removing the paragraph related to this, please feel free to do so here. Burtherman (talk) 16:38, 16 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

No. It's gaming the system to avoid losing to Succession in the drama section. Not a comedy. JohnDoeJohnny (talk) 17:50, 18 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
The Bear is not an in-your-face, three-jokes-a-minute sitcom but it does have quite a bit of comedy moments and comedic scenes. But of course, we're not here to inject our opinion but rather reflect reliable sources. The show presents itself as a comedy-drama and therefore it is. Of course we also cover properly sourced criticism/controversy around that designation with its deserved weight. Stefen 𝕋owers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 09:16, 19 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
As much as we can criticize the show for not being laugh out loud funny, it was still created and marketed as a comedy. Editors need to realize that "comedy-drama" isn't the same thing as a sitcom; it doesn't need to have a joke every 5 seconds to be a comedy.Mjks28 (talk) 20:58, 18 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
There is also black comedy, which could very reasonably describe "The Bear," just as it did MASH later in its run. --Drmargi (talk) 23:01, 18 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Drafts for seasons 1-3, episodes and characters, and season 4 article.

edit

This is a notice that I have created drafts for seasons 1, 2 and 3 of The Bear. All editors are welcome to come and help with the articles' development, and hopefully assist in getting them approved for the mainspace.

I have also created drafts for the list of episodes and list of characters. The episodes draft wouldn't be ready for mainspace yet, as there aren't enough episodes released to meet the criteria. The characters draft needs a lot of improvement, as I haven't done much with it yet.

There is also an article in the mainspace for the fourth season, which you can also help with. Mjks28 (talk) 03:27, 4 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

The season 4 article has been turned into a redirect, but there is a season 4 draft you can help improve. Mjks28 (talk) 05:03, 4 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
There's barely any production info in this main article, that should be expanded before creating any further articles. Pinging @User:Youngforever who declined drafts. Indagate (talk) 08:02, 4 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
I agree, and am currently working on expanding the production sections. It would be great if you could help add to it in any way you can. Mjks28 (talk) 08:17, 4 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
They failed WP:GNG and WP:TVSERIES as they were copied and pasted from parent article when they were first submitted to AFC. Season articles need to be standalone. I wasn't pinged FYI. — YoungForever(talk) 00:42, 19 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Could you read through the season one draft and provide some specific feedback as to how I could improve it for mainspace? Mjks28 (talk) 03:03, 19 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
I can honestly say the Drafts showed improvements from when they were first declined. Add a Casting section for the first season. Here is an example of an exceptional season article Grey's Anatomy season 17 should contain. But at bare minimum, it should look like Cobra Kai season 1. — YoungForever(talk) 03:43, 19 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. I will work on improving the drafts to this standard. Mjks28 (talk) 03:49, 19 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
The Umbrella Academy season 4 is another example of at bare minimum. Please do keep in mind that What's on Netflix is not a reliable source because it is a fan-operated website. — YoungForever(talk) 04:37, 19 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have added the casting section, as well as improving other production sections in the draft. Are there any other aspects you would recommend I could improve? Mjks28 (talk) 04:48, 19 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Expand the Development section such as information about executive producers and production companies that are involved with producing the first season. — YoungForever(talk) 05:03, 19 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Done. Are there any other improvements you can suggest? Mjks28 (talk) 06:28, 19 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
