GA review (see here for what the criteria are, and here for what they are not)

  1. It is reasonably well written.
    a. (prose, spelling, and grammar):
    b. (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists):
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
    a. (reference section):
    b. (citations to reliable sources):   Sources all seem appropriate for what they are supporting.
    c. (OR):
    d. (copyvio and plagiarism):   I reviewed the few matches above 7.5% found using Earwig's Copyvio Detector - no concerns. No concerns from spot check or some of the other sources I read as part of the review.
  3. It is broad in its coverage.
    a. (major aspects):
    b. (focused):
  4. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  5. It is stable.
No edit wars, etc.:   One edit was reverted a few days ago. No evidence of edit warring since the article was nominated as a GA in September. Nothing on the talk page that is concerning.
  6. It is illustrated by images and other media, where possible and appropriate.
    a. (images are tagged and non-free content have non-free use rationales):   CC BY-SA 3.0.
    b. (appropriate use with suitable captions):   Image is of Swift at about the time the song was written, so is relevant IMO. Positioning, caption and ALT text are OK.
  7. Overall:
    Pass/fail:

(Criteria marked   are unassessed)

Background and writing

  • recorded it in secret without informing her parents - optionally, could lose the "in secret", I think.
  • to surprise her on Christmas - "at Christmas" seems more natural to me, but this may be just an MOS:ENGVAR issue as I'm used to British English. (If changing it, also amend the picture caption)

Release

  • After a masters controversy, - I think it would be helpful to briefly summarise what the controvery was within this article.

Music and lyrics

  • the secret message in the song's lyrics - consider adding, either as a note or in the body text, Swift's practice about "secret" messages. (I only know about it for reading that 2014 Strecker article just now.)
  • the secret message in the song's lyrics is "God Bless Andrea Swift". - mention, either here or earlier, that Andrea Swift is Taylor Swift's mother.
  • activities they engaged in together including paint sets, pumpkin patches - I don;t think paint sets and pumpkin patches are activities.
  • feature many fall imagery - again, might be an ENGVAR issue, but isn't this "feature fall imagery" or soemthing like "feature fall images"?
  • the pumpkin patch, tractor rides, and the sky is gold - the italics are in the original, but I don't think they need to be italicised here. If they are quotes from the lyrics, shouldn't they be in quote marks?
  • the "goody-two-shoes" "The Best Day" - Optionally: I think this is technically correct, but maybe add something like "song" after "goody-two-shoes" just because it looks a bit odd (to me).
  • Spot check on memories when she was three, five, and 13 - no issues.
  • Spot check on mentions Snow White and princess in the lyrics - source has "princesses" (plural).

Reception

  • Spot check on Reed review - no issues.
  • Spot check on Sheffield (2021) - no issues.
  • Spot check on Swift sang the song during an acoustic portion, dedicating it to her mother and opening act Camila Cabello's mother - no issues.

Personnel /Charts

  • Looks fine.

Verdict

Thanks for the review, BennyOnTheLoose. I have addressed your comments accordingly except for the "on Christmas" bit. I think it's common in the States to say "on Christmas" as it is synonymous with "on Christmas Day". Ippantekina (talk) 06:40, 21 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I'm satisfied that the article meets the GA criteria, so am passing it. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 08:58, 21 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
