Mistake

edit

There's a mistake in the character description of Leonard - he dates Penny in season 3 for eight months, not two. The same error existed on the page about The Big Bang Theory (season 7), but I fixed it; however, even when logged in, there was no option for me to make an edit on this page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hymnodist.2004 (talkcontribs) 05:08, 20 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

S8 premiere

edit

Clearly this had not been updated, and I have fixed it. Due to cast contract disputes, the premiere date has been pushed back. Please see the CBS.com's Announcement and scroll down to 10/30. You'll see that there will still be back to back episodes on 9/22, but note they are repeats; this is explained under the 10/30 heading. Also, I don't know where the Futon Critic got his information, but 10/30 is a Thursday so there is no new night (they said Mondays), or at least that CBS has announced anyway. Since Futon got it all wrong, I removed the dates for further pending episodes and simply put TBA. CBS.com is the absolute authoritative source over some silly gossip/rumor site. Did you even read your own source? "Monday, Sept. 22 8:00-8:30 PM THE BIG BANG THEORY (8th Season Premiere) 8:30-9:00 PM THE BIG BANG THEORY (New Episode) Thursday, Oct. 30 8:00-8:30 PM THE BIG BANG THEORY (Regular Time Period Premiere)" This is all info we have known and sourced in this article. Futon Critic is also not a silly gossip/rumor site. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 23:44, 8 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Episode 9 vanity card

edit

This edit added the claim that a vanity card was not shown at the end of "The Septum Deviation", but the episode I watched does include a vanity card, and no image. The vanity card shown is #471, which starts with "Just to be clear, I'm still not writing vanity cards". --AussieLegend () 16:00, 14 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

The episode I watched did also include the vanity card, but according to Deadline.com there was shown a picture of Carol Ann Susi instead. It could be that it was only shown in the U.S? Jonny2BeGood (talk) 19:35, 14 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
Searching various P2P resources for this episode, all had the vanity card mentioned above instead of the Carol Ann Susi photo as described in the article. Perhaps the timing of her death meant that the photo was added at the last minute before broadcast, making the broadcast version different from the ones available through Napster for stupid people and other services. TBBT credits

edit

Regarding this edit: What do you mean "not as credited"? The punctuation, as compared to the press releases? If that's important, then why are the references deleted when an episode airs? The punctuation in the press releases differs from the on-screen text in the episodes too. The new credits had a reference to cbspressexpress. DarkProdigy (talk) 18:35, 23 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Punctuation is important, and the references are removed before all information is easily verifiable via the episode. Not is the link you've provided, given that a reference should be publicly accessible - I'm getting a "Sorry. This site is not available from your location" message. I recommend taking this to the article's talk page to get the opinion of other editors, if you have an issue with it. Alex|The|Whovian 00:52, 24 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Reposting this here from here for further opinions on: 1. Whether punctuation of credits should match the source, at the cost of consistency. 2a. What source should be used? (ex. The press release for today's episode says "WRITTEN BY: Chuck Lorre, Dave Goetsch and Anthony Del Broccolo" while the episode says "story by Chuck Lorre & Dave Goetsch & Anthony Del Broccolo", neither matching how the line appears currently. Also, in the episodes "teleplay by" appears before "story by".) 2b. If the source to be used is the press release, shouldn't the reference be left after the episode airs? 3. If cbspressexpress is a valid reference. It's an official website, but geoblocked. At the time, the press release was not listed on thefutoncritic.DarkProdigy (talk) 01:54, 24 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Kevin Sussman's role: Recurring or Starring

edit

moved from user talk:Ricardo Santiago
The issue of Kevin Sussman has been discussed previously. While he is credited as starring, the network treats him as a recurring character, so that is how he is referred to in articles, per WP:TVCAST. He has been credited as starring previously, but is always listed as a recurring character. See The Big Bang Theory (season 7) for examples. --AussieLegend () 03:21, 3 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

On the episode in question he's listed as starring, and the article lists him as a starring character. It's not about how the network is marketing the show, it's how the producers market the show. Ricardo Santiago (talk) 03:44, 3 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Nobody is denying that he is credited as starring in the episodes in which he appears. This is actually explained at List of The Big Bang Theory characters#Character appearance summary, which says Leslie Winkle was only a main character for season 2, and Stuart Bloom was a recurring character in season 7, regaining main character status in season 8. All of the other additional main characters have retained this status after being promoted to main character status. Leslie and Stuart are only credited in the episodes in which they appear. Amy and Bernadette, however, appear in the title sequence. WP:TVCAST clearly explains that "main" cast status is determined by the series producers. While Sussman is credited on-screen, the producers have continually referred to him as a recurring character in press releases since his first appearance in the series, and so this is how he is referred to in season articles. The producers have also chosen not to include him with the main characters on the lounge in the scene in the opening credits, so it's not just the press releases that exclude him from main cast. He was first promoted to "starring" nearly 3 years ago and, with the exception of the episode that you have changed, he has been referred to as such in all episodes in which he has appeared. Your edit-warring is therefore inconsistent with the way that the season articles have evolved. Note too that the original discussion regarding this is at Talk:The Big Bang Theory (season 6)#Stuart as main character. --AussieLegend () 04:25, 3 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry, but I don't see your point. Just because Sussman doesn't appear in the DVD cover, does not mean that he's not a main character. He is listed in this article (as well as others) as being a main character for the season, and is credited as main character for the episode in question. He is not credited along side with Laurie Metcalf and Christine Baranski. He is credited along with the other 7 main characters. Therefore, it is misleading to include him in the article both as main cast as well as a recurring actor. Ricardo Santiago (talk) 20:05, 5 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
I didn't say anything about the DVD cover, I said he's not in the TV episode opening with the main characters. No it's not misleading to list him as we've been doing so since 2012. As I've explained, while credited in name only as a starring characters, the producers and network treat him as a recurring character, so that's how we have to treat him, per WP:TVCAST. --AussieLegend () 04:04, 6 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for conflating the DVD cover with the "the lounge in the scene in the opening credits". Seems that the producers are not consistent in how they treat Sussman's role, so this ambiguity translates into unexplained inconsistencies in the article. Ricardo Santiago (talk) 23:08, 6 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Actually, the producers have consistently treated Sussman in the same way since he was promoted to series regular. It's this article that is inconsistent. For some reason, someone has added him to the "Cast" section, when he isn't in that section in previous seasons, and the note further compounds the inconsistency. --AussieLegend () 03:23, 7 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

TBBT characters correctly lists him as being a starring character in Seasons 6 and 8. He should therefore be listed in the Cast Section in this article. I'm not too sure about your assertion that "the producers have consistently treated Sussman in the same way since he was promoted to series regular" given that he was promoted in Season 6, demoted in Season 7, and promoted again in Season 8. Seems to me to be consistently inconsistent. Ricardo Santiago (talk) 05:21, 7 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

I hadn't noticed that he wasn't actually credited in season 7, however that doesn't mean that he should be in the "Cast" section. He is consistently identified in press releases as recurring, is absent from the main cast photo in the episodes and, as you've noted in the article, he's not in the DVD photo either. Essentially he's a recurring actor who is sometimes credited on-screen with the main cast. --AussieLegend () 05:59, 7 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
"sometimes credited on-screen with the main cast". The way things work around here, that means he should be listed in the main cast - see the Sara Gilbert precedence. Ricardo Santiago (talk) 11:39, 7 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
No. When Sara Gilbert was promoted to main cast she was credited as main cast and referred to as such in press releases, not as "recurring". There were also third-party sources that reported her eventual demotion. --AussieLegend () 11:53, 7 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Sara Gilbert is just like Kevin Sussman: neither appeared on the DVD cover nor in the opening sequence. Sussman has outlasted Gilbert in terms of number of episodes credited as main. Ricardo Santiago (talk) 12:16, 7 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Gilbert wasn't main cast when the DVD was produced. Rauch and Bialik weren't in the opening sequence initially, that happened later. If Gilbert had remained in the series she probably would have been included but we'll never know because she wasn't around long enough, unlike Sussman. Per WP:TVCAST, "main" cast status is determined by the series producers, not by popularity or screen time. The number of episodes is irrelevant. The difference between Gilbert and Sussman is that Gilbert was consistently listed as main cast and referred to as such in press releases. Sussman is consistently referred to in press releases as recurring. Gilbert and Sussman's circumstances are significantly different. --AussieLegend () 13:08, 7 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
What matters is not the press releases, but how they are credited on the screen. Ricardo Santiago (talk) 15:52, 7 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
No, it's not just that. Per TVCAST, "main" cast status is determined by the series producers. Nowhere is it specified that screen credits are the only factor, just that the producers determine it. In Gilbert's case the producers consistently referred to her as main cast. That's not the case with Sussman. Perhaps you should ask about this at WT:TV. --AussieLegend () 00:13, 8 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
The screen credits are where the rubber meets the road. That's where the producers give the credit. End of story. Who cares about their press releases? Ricardo Santiago (talk) 01:49, 8 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Citations needed for episode section title notes

edit

I initially raised the following issue in the season two article discussion; perhaps further discussion/debate should occur on that page. This section serves as more of an outlining of the problem and a notification as to where it can be discussed.

We can't note where the title comes from unless we can source a RS that explains that; to do so is OR. I will wait about two weeks, as I am guessing that most of the season articles for the series do this. After that, I will remove them completely as unsourced OR. I welcome discussion on the matter until that time. Jack Sebastian (talk) 15:12, 3 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
