Contested deletion
editThis article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because this band has been covered by several newspaper articles (not just music publicity publications) in New York and also in Missouri. I can search for more articles...I thought I had cited enough reliable sources so I took a break and let others build upon my contributions. - I have tried to add contributions and have reached issues, is there anything you can do to help me out? Thankyou - James — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.21.63.30 (talk) 18:35, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
- As I say below, once you have some content, write the statements, then cite the reference right afterwards, like this: (go into source edit mode to read this)
- "When the band formed, their ages ranged from 20 to 22. None of them were planning to have a music career until they met while enrolled in Paul Smith's College in the Adirondacks[1]"
- and put the info about the reference under "References" in this type of format: (go into source edit mode to read this)
- "[1]"
- I hope that helps. Smm201`0 (talk) 20:53, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

- Thank you, i attempted this and thought I got it right, but they were some errors, now highlighted in red on the page.
- Hi, thanks for contributing to the page. In the future, either use quotation marks or paraphrase content from sources. Otherwise it is plagiarism, which is not permitted. Thanks. Smm201`0 (talk) 19:14, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
- Another thing...when you add large chunks of material that doesn't sound "encyclopedic" and may verge on "promotional" you increase the chance of the page getting completely deleted. That is what happened last time someone added material like this to this page. You may want to go back and edit and paraphrase what you have added so that it sounds more professional and not quite so much as a PR rag before someone flags it for deletion again. If someone is interested after reading the details of your succinct summary of the information, they can click on the link to read more.
- If you want to help the article stick, add additional non-promotional, objective material from respected newspapers and magazines. Look for articles in The Rolling Stone, New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Cleveland Plain Dealer, Philadelphia Inquirer, Washington Post, and other respected publications.Smm201`0 (talk) 19:34, 30 July 2013 (UTC) Smm201`0 (talk) 19:50, 30 July 2013 (UTC)

editTO THOSE READING THIS DISCUSSION: If you know of any articles about this band in mainstream newspapers or magazine (not just PR rags), please list them (title, author, publication, date, etc., so they can be used to show this band is "notable" enough. Thanks. Smm201`0 (talk) 22:37, 23 July 2013 (UTC)

- Can't read any of that, Proquest appears to be a members only site(?). But have you read WP:BAND? I tried very hard but I couldn't find anything that makes me think The Blind Owl Band meets those criteria. Regards, Yintan 23:03, 23 July 2013 (UTC)
- I have access to a university library database for articles, etc. I don't even try to create pages for bands unless I can find multiple newspaper articles about them. Several newspapers covered this band so I went ahead. My thinking is that prospective research is more accurate - if pages are posted as soon as the band is well enough recognized, then as they move through their career there will be less retrospective reporting. The Wikipedia articles will report information that was added as it was published rather than from some person's memory of the event. But again, I don't create pages until there are multiple news stories about a band. I am not in the business either. Smm201`0 (talk) 23:54, 23 July 2013 (UTC)
- I think they meet this criterion:
- Has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in sources that are reliable, not self-published, and are independent from the musician or ensemble itself.[note 1]
- I think they meet this criterion:
- Also, some of the links were wrong in the reference section of the article. There are more sources that you can click on now. Although some trivial ones are included for stray facts, there are some that focus on the band. Smm201`0 (talk) 00:06, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

editThis article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because... (your reason here) --67.83.1.233 (talk) 23:03, 23 July 2013 (UTC)The Blind Owl Band without question needs to be on Wikipedia,,,,,They have all original self composed music, acoustical and have produced two cd'd of music and have a very strong following on the east coast and internationally. They were funded on their second cd release by kickstarter. They are noted artists and have a big following, playing at the knitting factory in Brooklyn, NY on Sunday,,,their venue of performances are on facebook and their website,,living room NYC,, Ashbury Park, the Saint,,,The Westcott
They are worthy of a wiki site,,,all done on their own talents, wiki will miss out if they are not featured without a doubt,,,they are the current venue of music and live,,,not to be missed
- This is not a vote, guys. It's about notability, see WP:BAND. Yintan 23:20, 23 July 2013 (UTC)
- Folks, this is how you can help - notability can be demonstrated by providing more sources - newspaper and magazine articles, etc., awards received, honors, etc. Do you know of any of those? Smm201`0 (talk) 00:44, 24 July 2013 (UTC) Gotta get back to my day job... Smm201`0 (talk) 00:46, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
- ALSO...Although people sometimes get away with all sorts of stuff, if you want to do it right and increase the likelihood that it will stick (not be deleted), write like you are writing a research paper for a really picky professor. Find newspaper articles and reviews, online news sites, major magazines like Rolling Stone or Billboard, etc., and get your info from them. Personal opinion won't stick. Once you have some content, write the statements, then cite the reference right afterwards, like this: (go into edit mode to read this)
- "When the band formed, their ages ranged from 20 to 22. None of them were planning to have a music career until they met while enrolled in Paul Smith's College in the Adirondacks[1]"
