Factions and Religions of the button
I'd love to see a breakdown of button factions and how this all ties together as a giant, live social experiment as reported in The Guardian. http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/apr/13/what-is-the-button-reddit but I'm thinking we should wait til more data is available. Too many useless/unnecessary references.
Could someone please remove any unnecessary citations from this article? It looks messy at the moment. --Anarchyte (talk) 04:18, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
- Don't worry, just finished it. --Anarchyte (talk) 10:53, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
Clarify what the timer is
Currently the page doesn't explain what the timer is, what it counts down from, and the fact that it resets when the button is clicked. --Michael.elgavi (talk) 13:23, 7 June 2015 (UTC)
Outdated?
I don't see any outdated information on this page. Remove the outdated tag? (talk to) TheOtherGaelan('s contributions) 04:03, 10 June 2015 (UTC)
Too technical
I put {{technical}}
on the article; it is too difficult for normal readers to understand. Many uncommon terms (e.g. "metagame", "flair") are either unexplained or replaceable with a better alternative. Esquivalience t 22:49, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
- I tried to explain what flairs are. However, I think the entire section about flairs should be removed per WP:INDISCRIMINATE. It's just unencyclopedic information that third-party reliable sources don't put much emphasis on, if at all. The section should be reduced to a single sentence (e.g. "users are identified by an icon next to their username called a flair, which indicated how much time was remaining on the timer if the button was pressed by that user") and merged with the lead/overview section. Mz7 (talk) 04:56, 12 June 2015 (UTC)
- Interesting though. When you search for "the button flair", the first result is this Vox article that goes in-somewhat-depth on flairs. Not sure this supports an entire section on what flairs correspond to what time on the timer, but flairs do sort of appear to be fairly important to the whole topic. Flair
WHITE flair should be mentioned/explained. I also think the section on Flair colors should look better, like what can be seen on the reddit page explaining the button. -- TyCamden 10:13, 10 May 2015 (EST)
- @TyCamden: - This has since been done by another editor. --Anarchyte 07:44, 5 June 2015 (UTC)
- Flair section has been removed by a user, and replaced with a short sentence in the lead.. I'm not going to revert this, but if anyone wants to use a table for any future section oncolors, here's one I prepared earlier. Uses the same color codes as the flairs RadishSlice (talk) 15:10, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
Time clicked | Color |

60s-52s | Purple |
51s-42s | Blue |

31s-22s | Yellow |
21s-12s | Orange |

Screenshots?
A screenshot of the /r/thebutton page back when the Button was still active would be an invaluable improvement to the page, I think. Does anyone have or can find such a screenshot? Thanks, Mz7 (talk) 05:01, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
- I added one to the info box. Pubes4teeth (talk) 04:12, 27 February 2017 (UTC)
