Plot Summary

edit

This could really use a brief plot summary. It's been many many years since I read this book but it was one of my favorites as a child. Lime in the Coconut 19:54, 18 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Summary Info

edit

The Cay is a book about a little boy named Philip, who's mother is nervous about the war. She tries to take Philip back to the US, but the ship is torpedoed. Philip gets stuck on a little raft with Stewcat and Timothy, an old black man. Philip loses his sight, and gets stuck on an island with the black man. Then, about 2 months later, a big storm comes, and Timothy dies. Philip gets saved, and his sight gets better. --67.5.186.21 (talk) 17:41, 21 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Merge and Redirect

edit

Hi. The author's page actually has more information about this book than the book's page. I'd suggest moving any relevant material to the author's page, and then redirecting. Tomandlu (talk) 09:10, 5 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

The book meets notability requirements, on back of its cultural standing, and also recent controversy regarding racism. Better idea is to copy (or cut) relevant material from author page into this page. Spinifex&Sand (talk) 22:30, 27 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Name of Phillip's father

edit

It says in the characters section that Phillip's father's name is Peter, but my copy of the Cay says his name is also Phillip

"Late in the afternoon, my father, whose name was also Phillip - Phillip Enright - returned home..." - The Cay, page 14.

I don't know where it came from that his name was Peter, but it seems to be wrong. Kyle Tatum (talk) 05:15, 2 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

In my copy it also says that Phillip is also the name of Philips father. I am going by the book as it is written by the author who created him. Hey there peeps 12345 (talk) 11:21, 27 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

I also want to add the fact that when Timothy said that the cay they are in is a melon-shaped cay. 180.190.47.183 (talk) 09:50, 24 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. DannyS712 (talk) 09:56, 24 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Banning by Burbank Schools

edit

Suggest that reference should be made to opposition to banning. Important perspective and reliable sources available. Spinifex&Sand (talk) 22:35, 27 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

I think it would be in line with WP:NPOV, and so pending feedback I propose to include the following sentence to the end of the section titled Censorship and banning incidents: The ban was opposed by organisations such as PEN America and the National Coalition Against Censorship on the basis that the book helped support discussions about contemporary racism.Newsweek Spinifex&Sand (talk) 22:43, 3 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
