Controversy

edit

I undid the deletion of the controversy heading and added the fact that the lawsuit was settled. This addition should remain in the entry as it reflects on the general character and ethics of the company / founder. 99.75.94.206 (talk) 18:56, 22 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Safety concerns

edit

Editors have been adding information regarding safety concerns with the colored powders used in the run, perhaps due to this page being linked from the article about the recent Formosa Fun Coast explosion. However, so far none of the cited sources have specifically mentioned this event. Adding a sentence like "The Color Run uses cornstarch powder, which can be highly flammable" is original synthesis unless the cited source mentions the flammability of cornstarch in connection with The Color Run. Please refrain from adding such content unless you can find a source that mentions safety concerns with this event.

On the other hand, if there are reliable sources voicing safety concerns with this event, then by all means add those sources to the article, keeping in mind WP:DUE of course. 24.130.189.187 (talk) 03:07, 30 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Due to the above tragic event occurring in Taiwan, the Singaporean authorities are currently reviewing the safety concerns of the type of powder used in the Color Run. Hence I believe the verdict is still out on the possible safety issues with events that utilize these type of powders. (This is linked in reference no. 39.) Thanks for your edits! I have no objections to the section as it stands right now. 24.130.189.187 (talk) 05:40, 2 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Controversy relating to the Hindu Holi festival

edit

Right now there is a Controversy in the section talking about how this event has been appropriated from the Hindu festival known as Holi. It seems like this could be a legitimate and even notable complaint worthy of inclusion. Unfortunately the only source used is from an opinion piece written by a 19-year-old college student published in an online blog site that allows for anyone (matching certain cultural criteria) to make guest posts. This person does not appear to be a reliable source not to mention that the article is written as an opinion piece.

At the very least this article needs to mention that her article is an opinion piece. However, I feel that this source is not up to Wikipedia standards. I have boldly removed that section for now. If someone can find a better source of criticism then by all means we can add the information back in. But as it stands, right now, it does not belong. SQGibbon (talk) 19:44, 27 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

I understand your objections to the source, and I think most of the objections I've read related to cultural/religious appropriation or "whitewashing" have been opinion or perspective. I just finished reading an article in which the writer said she considers the color runs to be appropriation but might feel differently if the events acknowledged Holi and provided information about the event that inspired the color runs. There's one coming up in my area, and while I think the colors are beautiful and festive, I'd feel uncomfortable particpating. For this article, it would be good to have an authoritative source, whether related to religion/theology or cultural appropriation, especially if it could be tied to an event or announcement or something.

I apologize; I think I'm supposed to sign this, but I'm tired and I've long forgotten how to edit Wikipedia (although I liked it when I used to do it). I liked reading your post here and just wanted to weigh in. Thank you. Well, maybe I did figure out how to sign this. Maybe there's hope for me yet. ;) Lauriellen (talk) 06:18, 3 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
