Mystery Mattress?
editIn the short story there is no mention of a mattress where the boys found Old Misery's money, was this fact taken from the film adaptation? TL;DR Citations please. Hashbrown66 (talk) 03:47, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
Protagonist
editThe whole story is told from Blackie's point of view; I would argue that he is the protagonist, not Trevor. Hashbrown66 (talk) 03:47, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
Untitled
editRemoved "There are also many similarities between this short story and Chuck Palahniuk's Fight Club as well as the movie based on that book, particularly between the gang and Project Mayhem. The theme of destroying something beautiful is central to both."
That's a subjective analysis that sounded jarring to me, being a fan of both Palahniuk, the movie Fight Club and Donnie Darko.
- I agree. I didn't delete it because it was there before I started editing the article and I've only read Fight Club once and seen the movie once and thought there could be more to the comparison than I thought. If you say there's nothing to it, leave it out. The Donnie Darko comparison belongs, though, I think. I've been searching for a more substantive critical analysis of the relationship, actually. That line about Fight Club really should be taken out, unless someone can find anything where Chuck P says it was intentional.
Further disambiguation needed.
editI came to this while looking for information about the movie “The Destructors”, a 1968 spy film, because there is yet another movie called “The Destructors” (1974), starring Michael Caine, which I had wanted to see, and had come across the 1968 one in the TV schedules. I was surprised to only find a reference to the Graham Greene story and a punk band I had never heard of. The 1974 film, to add to my confusion, is sometimes calle “The Marseille Contract”. I think that there should be dismabiguation of both these movies. Jock123 (talk) 13:17, 19 October 2009 (UTC)
I agree. The Michael Caine movie is very good, and the article I was looking for after seeing that intense Maserati Merak/Porsche 911 chase scene.--208.127.100.147 (talk) 10:15, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
It would be useful to have the actual quotations
editThe Destructors:"Destruction, after all, is a form of creation."
Donnie Darko: "[D]estruction is a form of creation"
