– These titles are ambiguous, as The Diplomat (American TV series) is primarily set in the UK, and so many readers may think that The Diplomat (British TV series) is the Netflix series (I made that mistake when searching for the Netflix series). We shouldn't expect readers to know this confusing, nuanced difference between these 2 series, a better disambiguation is needed, with The Diplomat (British TV series) then redirecting to Diplomat (disambiguation)#Fiction, film and television as a {{R from incomplete disambiguation}}. • Oppose. The current hatnotes do a great job of redirecting any confused readers, and the current titles are correct per the naming convention at WP:NCTV. 162 etc. (talk) 21:04, 2 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. One is an American TV series and the other is a British TV series, and the current disambiguation is both clear and standard. That the American TV series is largely set in London does not turn it into a British TV series. TJRC (talk) 21:43, 2 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Weak oppose per WP:NCTV. Technically, both titles are correct and I'm unconvinced there would be any confusion. I've gone ahead and redirected The Diplomat (Netflix)" to the American series, so hopefully that may decrease any confusion. Estar8806 (talk) 00:10, 3 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose I think it'll be clear to most people that this series is the American one, since it was produced by Americans for Netflix, and the British one was produced by the BBC. But if anyone mistakenly goes to the wrong one, the hatnote has a quick explanation and a link. It's not ideal, but there were two television political thrillers of the same name in the same year. Some amount of confusion is inevitable. Red Rock Canyon (talk) 05:32, 3 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Weak support - would suggest renaming to '''The Diplomat'' (2023 Netflix series)' and '''The Diplomat'' (UK TV series)'. Atomix330 (talk) 19:53, 3 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose - We typically use country of origin not the location of the show, and as said the hatnote is enough to make sure people find the correct one they are looking for. WikiVirusC(talk) 19:57, 3 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment: The fact two shows were released the same year under the exact same name requires an explanation - by our articles. Hatnotes are meant for more administrative cases, and aren't suitable to carry the entire explanatory load for this exceptional case. I have added this to the lead of both articles. The hatnotes themselves are fine. CapnZapp (talk) 17:48, 4 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
I agree they should be noted in the article bodies, which is why there are (and already were) discussions of the title conflict in both under "Production". I'm not sure adding another line to the article intros was necessary. — stickguy (:^›)— || talk || 07:28, 6 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
The information needs to be in the lead (above the table of contents) for the information to be useful to the reader, and truly complement the hatnote's function. We should not solely rely on a hatnote, which many readers expect to appear for administrative purposes only. But this isn't a commonly encountered case of disambiguation - readers will be surprised by the fact there are two identically-named shows released in the same year and genre, which merits not relying solely on the hatnote, but to specifically address the issue in the proper article text (lead). Isn't that Jane Hartley (the US Ambassador) in the cast image? Only the Secretary of State is called out... Tyandersen (talk) 01:08, 29 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
