Talk:The Elite (professional wrestling)

Adam Page

edit

Adam Page never officially left The Elite. Not sure why he is listed as a former member. He is even shown as a member on a video on AEW's facebook page on January 1, 2020. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 47.20.65.69 (talk) 21:37, 1 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

On the 5/13/20 episode of Dynamite, Chris Jericho acknowledged Page as still being a member of the Elite. He never officially left the group. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.196.72.173 (talk) 01:30, 14 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

The Elite's status

edit

On the Being the Elite Episode 100, Kenny Omega says to the Young Bucks "our friendship is over", if you hear this and still think they're actively teaming together, I don't know what to tell you, it doens't matter whether youtube is a valid source or not because being the elite is canon to the storyline and the commentators and wrestlers reference it on NJPW and ROH shows all the time. They may team again after the storyline is resolved but it's wrestling, we follow it in real time so we must edit the page in real time as well. It doesn't matter if you think they may team again you have to wait it for it to happen. Judester30 (talk) 09:47, 5 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

There are so many things wrong with that comment... Probably the best commentary on this is WP:VNT: ...the threshold for inclusion is verifiability, not truth... , meaning that something being true isn't sufficient to be included in Wikipedia. It has to be verifiable, because the articles have to be maintainable, which means someone has to be able to arbitrate between competing editors who disagree.
The other commentary is WP:NOTNEWS. Wikipedia is not a newspaper. We don't rush to provide the latest greatest scoop. We summarize and reference what 'others report (see WP:TERTIARY). If the only source is watching events live, it doesn't get reported in Wikipedia - or at least, not until someone else meeting WP:RS reports on it, and we can summarize and cite their report. You can’t go on YouTube because it isn’t a source, nor is it reliable, a source needs to be provided with a website that has been reliable in the past TheKinkdomMan talk 02:10, 6 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

The Being the Elite YouTube channel is a reliable source for the contents of that web series, as that's its publishing medium. Original works are always reliable sources for the contents of those works. There is no and can be no categorical statement on reliability of YouTube videos; each video itself must be assessed based on its contents. oknazevad (talk) 13:04, 15 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Membership statuses of Kota Ibushi, Chase Owens, and Yujiro Takahashi

edit

Has it been confirmed that Ibushi is a member of The Elite? He has made it clear before that he doesn't consider himself part of any stable, but I am unaware if that has changed since The Elite have left Bullet Club. If he is a member, then Golden Lovers should be listed as a subgroup of The Elite.

As well, the inclusion of Yujiro but not Owens is strange. Both men seem to be caught in the same place, where they haven't formally left Bullet Club, but have not been included as part of it ever since the show at the Cow Palace. They have both been aligning themselves with The Elite since that time, but have never been announced to be formal members of that stable either. Are there any sources to confirm which stable(s) they are in?

68.196.22.174 (talk) 23:23, 9 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Honestly, I'm not even so sure about Amell (he hasn't been mentioned at all) or Yujiro. Yeah, Yujiro is teaming with Hangman for the tag league, but the announcement on Talk is Jericho was pretty clear that the Elite is just the six guys with starring credits on Being The Elite (starring, not "also", so not Flip Gordon). We also need a firm source about Ibushi. For now, because the formal announcement was clear that it's just the BTE guys, I'm removing the others. oknazevad (talk) 03:09, 15 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Check out this [youtu.be/-bMTeexRnGE] interview from NJPW World. Kenny Omega refers to the tag team that just competed in the match (himself, Kota, Chase and Yujiro), as half of "The Golden Elite". So what I am thinking is, "The Elite" is the group that stars in BTE, and "The Golden Elite" is the NJPW stable that broke off from Bullet Club. The issue is how this effects the article. I could not find any third party sources covering what he said, so I did not make any changes. STATic message me! 19:53, 16 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
To be fair The Bucks, Cody, Kenny, Hangman and Scurll really need to clarify who is in The Elite and what the distinction is between The Elite that appear on BTE and the faction that exists in New Japan currently because clearly there's a distinction between the two. Referring to the BTE guys as The Elite and the on-screen faction as The Golden Elite might help clear up confusion between them TunaNoodleMyFavorite (talk) 21:58, 24 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Omega and Scurll

edit

Since The Elite left ROH, Omega and Scurll still members? Scurll started his own faction since The Elite left. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 15:00, 2 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Well, part of that is their contracts haven't expired. Supposedly Omega's expires at the end of the month, while Marty's is through April.
But ultimately, the thing about the Elite is that the group transcends promotions. I wouldn't worry about them leaving unless they wind up in WWE. oknazevad (talk) 15:05, 2 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
It's confusing because Marty's moved on in ROH due to The Elite being gone, but he's not officially out in "Being The Elite". And potentially Being The Elite could have different storylines than AEW (perhaps they're still buddies in BTE but feuding in AEW). Definitely something to watch.Froo (talk) 04:33, 4 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

NEW ELITE

edit

They seem more of a group of wrestling promoters rather than a wrestling faction. THE NEW ImmortalWizard(chat) 17:57, 17 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

There is kind of two versions of The Elite. One is the cast of Being the Elite and the other was the faction that was founded in NJPW by Kenny and The Bucks, which came before the YouTube show if I'm not mistaken. StaticVapor message me! 22:45, 17 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Dustin and MJF

edit

Are they members/associates of The Elite? I mean, I only heared about The Elite in AEW as Kenny and the Bucks. But Cody's stable has been called The Nightmare Family, with Brandy, MJF, DDP and Dustin. I think they don't belong here, it's like the Elite it's a different thing than The Nightmare Family. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 11:50, 14 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Id call them associates as Cody is part of both. oknazevad (talk) 12:21, 14 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
But they are not using The Elite stable in AEW. AEW only uses The Elite with the Omega/Bucks trio, not with Cody. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 14:00, 16 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
While they haven't fought all together yet, Cody and Page's memberships in the Elite are fully acknowledged in the promotion and on the commentary. oknazevad (talk) 16:29, 16 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Gallows & Anderson

edit

Seems these guys were prematurely added as members, as so far they have only called themselves Bullet Club, with Matt Jackson saying "it's complicated" in regards to this being Bullet Club. The AEW SHOP store calls the new t shirt "The Elite 4 life" and the new BTE calls it an "ELITE REUNION" in the video description, but nothing so far only Bullet Club has been mentioned on the shows.--BLACK FUTURE (tlk2meh) 19:09, 11 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

after tonight's episode, they were announced as The Elite but they kicked the Bucks out, so if no one objects, I may remove the Goodbrothers from the the group members section as it seems to be a whole different 3-man group for now.BLACK FUTURE (tlk2meh) 03:39, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
I agree on the January 13 episode of dynamite, in the 6 man tag match including the good brothers and kenny omega, they were announced as the elite. therefore, the goodbrothers should be listed among the elite Mogar101 (talk) 12:53, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
This is mega confusing now, though Anderson did tag last nights clip as #TheElite on twitter....im outta ideas for now. I think Associates is fine for now till we get clarity. Though they wouldnt be making 5-man t shirts if the plan was to not have it exist for more than a week? --BLACK FUTURE (tlk2meh) 20:52, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
I'll remove them right now, if they're announced as the elite at hard to kill or the next time they they tag with kenny, i'll move it to members Mogar101 (talk) 12:48, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
They came to the ring separately at Hard to Kill, but Omega had a Bullet Club tank top and Gallows/Anderson had custom Bullet Club matching ring gear. Ironically, mentioning content to the Bullet Club is being reverted for not being 'real Bullet Club', and adding it to the Elite article might need to be removed as it's too Bullet Clubby...lol--BLACK FUTURE (tlk2meh) 04:40, 17 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Dicey now. They are formally called Bullet Club on both AEW/Impact now, this includes all 5 of them + Callis...but not 'The Elite' really minus the one Dynamite where they did a switcharoo. Now Kenta is involved helping them....the Bullet Club wiki editors were reverting mentions of any of these guys from that page so not sure how this should be sorted. As it stands right now, imo, the Elite is still Kenny + Bucks, and all of them together are Bullet Club ("Hollywood") and the NJPW Bullet Club with Tonga et all are also Bullet Club ("Wolfpac"). Also not sure where Kenta slots into this, he had a Bullet Club short on last night, "Go 2 Sleep Club, Orlando FL" so not sure if he's switched or now dual factions--BLACK FUTURE (tlk2meh) 16:23, 4 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Someone changed the page saying the group broke up so tried to change it back. Yeah, kayfabe they "split up" for a week or so but was maybe jumping the gun to say it was disbanded, like when Hangman "left" months before actually leaving. As of now, they're all good again. Also, AEW commentators saying "Bullet Club is back together" fwiw so I used it in the sub-group. Not sure if the Goodbrothers count as full members in that case then?--BLACK FUTURE (tlk2meh) 02:24, 8 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

On Dynamite they change between "Bullet Club" and "The Elite", last night it was about 'The Elite' and their private trailer. Don Callis was on the radio today and he called it "the new Elite" (ie, "I just reformed The Elite, the biggest thing in pro wrestling, its bigger than the NWO" something along those lines). So I guess that makes Goodbrothers official Elite members, and Don? Or just the Brothers? --BLACK FUTURE (tlk2meh) 19:28, 22 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Okay now AEW is calling the 5 of them "The Super Elite" https://aewrestling.bandcamp.com/track/packing-heat-super-elite-aew-theme --BLACK FUTURE (tlk2meh) 13:22, 23 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

It was recently edited by anon that GB were out of the Elite but theres no source for any of this. Yes, I've read that Impact is ending its relationship with AEW since it was only for the year, but we as editors can't predict who goes where. Bullet Club was in both NJPW and ROH. Anyway, Anderson put out a tweet about if they were out: "#GoodBrothers love our #Elite brothers #4Life see y’all again real soon, sooner than ya think. #theELITE" https://twitter.com/MachineGunKA/status/1453377853920251907. So while Kenny may not be in Impact, no word that they wont get booked for Impact in the future like Callis, they are clearly not exclusive to Impact even if the promotions arent booking storylines together. --BLKFTR (tlk2meh) 18:53, 29 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Michael Nakazawa

edit

Whats Michael Nakazawa's status in the group? I'm assuming its an assoiate judging by his apperance on aew dark: elevation and Triplemanía XXVIII. Mogar101 (talk) 18:34, 18 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

I assume associate, he's like an assistant to Kenny and Don right now, tagging together next week --BLACK FUTURE (tlk2meh) 19:29, 15 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Leader?

edit

Is there really a "leader" of the Elite, and is it relevant? Personally I think you could argue that Kenny is in a leadership position now that he's won the title, but prior to that just one of the 3 "OG" members; when AEW launched it seemed like Cody was the de facto leader tbh --BLACK FUTURE (tlk2meh) 17:50, 12 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Ibushi in the Elite?

edit

I changed his status to Elite from Associate but an anon user changed it back stating the "Golden Elite is not the Elite", which I found confusing. On BTE Ep. 106 @ 15:30 he's put in the 'Golden' Elite, their logo just says 'The Elite' but its of course in gold. I'm not sure how this is a "different" group, or a distinction without a difference. Furthermore, on the Bullet Club wiki, it states: "at a press conference aired on NJPW World, Omega confirmed that he and the Young Bucks were still a part of the Bullet Club, as well as clarifying that Ibushi had joined The Elite". I checked out the press conference and Kenny's quote was, "Ibushi is a member of The Elite." 36 35. If there if someone could explain otherwise, be my guest. --BLKFTR (tlk2meh) 02:48, 28 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Ibushi was never really condsidered a part of the Elite, it was the trio, then the extra BTE 3 - Ibushi was always booked a part of the Golden Elite, so having him as a pure member feels misleading. I'm not going to bother arguing though, keep the change if you want. All I can say is please stop going so ham on this page. It's getting cluttered/messy. Lots of people have contributed to this page over the years, and you've completely overhauled it and don't want to compromise (i don't know if you did the timeline, but it was needlessly hard to read). I appreciate your help on this page, but please stop being so abrasive: accusing people of vandalism, rewriting what has been fine for years, etc. AM Woody (talk) 12:12, 29 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
Not sure what you're talking about. Nothing has been "overhauled" at all and you cant accuse me of lacking compromise when I'm the only person on the talk page trying to find consensus. I have, on the other hand, dealt with vandalism to the page from anon users who were, literally, making personal attacks in the comments. There is nothing wrong with fixing content, wiki isnt supposed to stay stagnant for years, never fix things, etc. It's just being WP:BOLD on a C-Level page that clearly needs a lot of work. As far as Ibushi goes, if Kenny says in an official press conference that he's a member, I dont know how else to handle it per WP:VERIFY, if he "wasnt considered" it sounds like WP:OR. --BLKFTR (tlk2meh) 16:52, 29 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

BTE Championship

edit

Would it be worth it to include a section about the BTE Championship and list of holders, or is that irrelevant? (Bes2224 (talk) 21:00, 26 October 2021 (UTC))Reply

I don't really follow BTE - how many champions have there been? Perhaps it could be a subsection under #Being the Elite. — Czello 21:01, 26 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
I don't have an exact count, but in the ballpark of 10 reigns. (Bes2224 (talk) 03:11, 27 October 2021 (UTC))Reply

Cole & Fish subgroup

edit

It makes no sense to list Cole & Fish as having performed as a part of The Elite in WWE, they were not in The Elite they were Undisputed Era.

They should be listed as only performing in AEW but have the same note about teaming prior to being in the group that is given to Cody & Dustin BadGirlRyleigh (talk) 03:27, 9 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned references in The Elite (professional wrestling)

edit

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of The Elite (professional wrestling)'s orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.
