objectivity?

edit

Shouldn't this article be less subjective? This is a dictionary afterall, not a blog.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.227.166.179 (talk) 07:33, 18 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Not a blog or even a dictionary, an online enyclopedia. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 14:08, 15 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I'm wondering whether this article was deliberately written to make the novel look like crappy propaganda, or if it was written by someone deeply inured to racism and historical denial. The Palestinian / ALA leadership tries to drive the locals off their land, while the friendly Israelis seek only peaceful coexistence! "The novel ends with Ishmael going insane and becoming delusional to the furthest extent because of the terrible life that his Arab culture had forced him to live." Wow... <eleland/talkedits> 01:48, 23 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

having read the novel i find that it is unfortunetly very much like propoganda. ARabs are presented as “lazy,cowardly,boastful,deceitful,backbiting,lustful,underdependable, murderers, thieves and rapists” —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.54.62.158 (talk) 15:23, 13 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

I read it too. I would have to concur. The portrayal of Arabs and of Islam is very negative. I don't get it; all the Palestinians I've met have been decent folks. Afalbrig (talk) 13:53, 1 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

It seems to me, having just read the novel, that the ARTICLE as it is as of Aug.24, 2011 is quite an objective & fairly detailed summary of the novel.The NOVEL itself may appear to some readers as rather pro Jewish/Isreal & very negative towards many aspects of Arab/Moslem culture. That is a charge that would have to be directed at Leon Uris, the novelist. We need to look at history, the other writings of Uris, and our individual experiences & values to reach a decision about the fairness & value of the novel's point of view. 124.6.181.81 (talk) 03:31, 24 August 2011 (UTC) G.D. Plot summary

edit

I came to this article rather late, not having had any inclination until today to see what Wikipedia said about it. The plot summary Sfdan added in August 2006 is one of the best such summaries I've read in any Wikipedia pages about books or movies. I've read the book several times in the past 15 years or so, and Sfdan's summary is fair and accurate (I sent him a belated thanks). It does not disparage Arabs in the terms claimed above by other editors in May 2010 and December 2011. – Athaenara 03:50, 17 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

I've read it too. It is profoundly racist from start to end. Some properly sourced critique is sorely needed in the article. Zerotalk 07:09, 8 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Not Expository

edit

Whether one agrees, or not, with the position presented in this article is irrelevant to the fact that it is not an expository piece and should not appear in any kind of encyclopedic publication. The very fact that there is an opinion with which to agree or disagree renders the piece unqualified to be presented as factually based. It sets out from the beginning to state and support a position on subjective matter, that is, it is an opinion piece. It should be removed in its entirety. No piece beginning from an article that chooses and interprets its fact to support an opinion can be transformed into objective exposition. Smanion (talk) 04:28, 9 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

This is a novel

edit

The claim that it is anti-Palestinian propaganda is irrelevant, since it is a novel. 2600:100F:B06D:CBE5:B4C7:C14:8362:4CC6 (talk) 05:38, 5 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Lots of novels are propaganda. Zerotalk 12:30, 5 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
