Synopsis source

edit

CorenSearchBot said copyvio because the synopsis text (as at 28 December 2015) was the same as in http://www.moviechick.com/film/196392/National_Theatre_Live_The_Hard_Problem.html. In fact the text didn't come from moviechick.com, which presumably copied it from the National Theatre source cited in the article, or from other sites where it's replicated (e.g. playbill.com). It seemed to me that use of the brief text, quoted and cited, qualified as WP:Fair use.

  • Actually in the form it is presented here, it does not meet the Wikipedia criteria for use. One of those criteria is that copyrighted content can only be used if no free equivalent is available or can be created. Since this is a plot summary, it can easily be reworded, so does not qualify. On the other hand, the quotes used from the reviews do qualify, since we wouldn't want to change what a reviewer said. (Wikipedia's policies on fair-use type situations is deliberately more restrictive than other sites, since we give it all away for free.) CrowCaw 21:44, 23 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
